What are the best supplements to help avoid Alzheimer's disease, and other problems with the brain?

Alzheimer's disease seems to be growing not only in awareness but in the number of people having it and dying from it.  Even without having full blown Alzheimer's, more and more are suffering from dementia and its different forms.

What are some supplements and other things people can do to help avoid Alzheimer's disease and other brain problems like dementia?  What can be done to help lessen the "plaques" we hear that build up in the brain?

L-carnatine  Ginko Biloba are a couple that I can think of that may be beneficial, as well as your Omega 3's & 6's.

So many things are a contributing factor to this disease. A new study on Alzheimer's has linked aluminum to Alzheimer's, so the first step is to eliminate it. Heavy metals are detrimental to the human body, obviously, aluminum is one, along with all the others. Lead, mercury, ect. When heavy metals inter the body, the are almost impossible to remove.
The common every day things that contain  aluminum, and other heavy metals are: our drinking water, along with copper, which comes from the copper pipes that supply that water, along with lead, aluminum, bacteria, and microbs. Best solution? A water filter put on the kitchen faucet. Most antacids, and a lot of deodorants, contain aluminum, toothepaste, (thats why you do not swallow),Oral rinses, mercury fillings, as well as some cosmetics.  By reading labels, and becoming an informed consumer you have won half the battle.
Among the most helpful supplements are, cilantro, chlorella, and apple pectin. Each binds heavy metals and removes them from the body, through the feces.
A b-12 deficiency symptom is memory loss, as well as b-6.
The omegas, (good fats), feed our brain. The brain is made up of 60% fat, the good fats keep it fed. Switch to good fats for cooking, olive oil, coconut, oil, and walnut oil. Take an omega supplement, with 3,6,and 9 in a balanced formula. The saturated fats present in todays American diet, is what is clogging everyone's arteries. If it has the ability to clog arteries, then it would stand to reason it's clogging our brains as well.http://artist101.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-increase-memory-naturally

Just A thought: If the arteries are clogged with plaque, and diminishing blood flow to the brain, it would also be a contributing factor. Might wanna address that issue also.http://artist101.hubpages.com/hub/Heart-Health-Natural-Supplements-to-lower-

First of all Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging. It is a very complexed condition. There are genetic links but there are also links to environmental pollutants. At this present time we do not what can be done to
"lessen" the plaques which form in the brain and are only seen in Alzheimer's disease. There are two different types of Alzheimer's disease - Early Onset and
Late onset. Early Onset is caused by a genetic issue.
Scientists know that overall brain health is important and our brain is partly made up out the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA can both be found is
Fish Oil Omega 3. Taking a Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement every day will help to support the brain and  overall circulatory health. EPA and DHA both help to make our arteries more elastic which reduces blood pressure. Good blood pressure control can help to reduce incidents of dementia, and possible Alzheimer's disease. Gingko Biloba can support micro circulation, and the vitamin B group is also important for overall health of the nervous system. Many people that suffer dementia and Alzheimer's disease suffer from lack of vitamin B.
Vitamin B should be taken as a complex not as stand alone vitamin B6 or B12 - they all have important roles and work together.
Omega 6 does not support the brain - Omega 6 can be manufactured by the body and found in meat. We get enough of Omega 6 in our diet and do not need this as a supplement. L -Carnitine can be beneficial for brain health if used in combination with vitamin C as this combination improves circulation. There is no evidence this would specifically benefit Alzheimer's disease nor that extra L carnitine supports dementia as a stand alone supplement.
Alzheimer's disease is more common in built up areas i.e. large town or cities.
Aluminium has not been proven to cause Alzheimer's disease but there is a strong link to mercury and parabens.

Some studies have shown an increased risk of developing AD with environmental factors such the intake of metals, particularly aluminium,[147][148] or exposure to solvents. I beg to Differ

Omega-3 fatty acids are most likely the best preventative supplement for Alzheimer's disease. Supplements are only insurance. Have a diet that is full-fledged on healthy options is even better. Try including coldwater fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, and sardines. Include chia seeds, flaxseeds, avocados, and walnuts.

I agree - well said. Avocados are great and walnuts are often dismissed.

Base on research, I have discovered that many of the supplement are great, however, the best thing to do in Brain exercises. The brain need exercise similar to any other muscle. When was the last time you learned something new  this exercises  the brain. Learn to play the violin, piano, guitar. Play chess. If you notice in countries where people use their brains there is little conversation about brain problems it is only were you are doped up with mindless videos and 200 channels of foolishness.
