I'd be more inclined to align your personalities to experiences, one of those experiences is your upbringing and the meme in which you are influenced. The family meme includes the ethnicity of the family, ie German, Asian, Spanish, Australian etc. The ethnic meme includes your parent's, grandparent's influence as well as the general psyche of the ethnicity because they too were influenced by it, as are you.
Your personality is broken up into the traits you use to cope in any situation, therefore you can have many personality types depending on the experiences you have had to date. Some people because of their limited experiences can be bound by a small group of personality types, or character traits.
If, say an Asian adult chooses to leave his/her family and work in a non-Asian country, as an example, that person will find a mixed set of values between the Asian meme she was brought up in, and the different values of the country she is now working in. It is likely and beneficial that the immigrant adapts to new values which will broaden the personality traits. Diversity is required. But usually the immigrant does not drop the pre-existing traits learned in formative years and these are used when re-visiting the parent country, including the parents!
In short, of course the more experiences the more diverse you become, the more character traits you can use..........and in many cases it means the more interesting you can be as a human being.
