My husband has suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for years.  Many doctors told him they couldn't diagnose the problem and ended up putting him on drugs with very severe side effects.  My suggestion---look for safe answers in naturopathic or holistic medicine.  Do some studying and reading on the inet and you will be able to find info on what natural supplements he may be able to take to help.  Of course, seeing a naturopathic doctor would be the best, but most insurance doesn't cover, so it's expensive.

He needs to have some simple tests done to see what may be out of balance in his brain chemistry, and/or other body systems that may be in need of help.  You also need to learn more about what he eats and what may need to be changed in that area.  Certain foods and drinks have been shown to greatly increase anxiety and panic attacks.  Finally, drinking water will certainly always help.  My husband has found help with an herbal medicine called Zen, unfortunately, I don't recall the company off the top of my head.  If you email me at mrpryor48@yahoo.com, I will try to find out for you if you want.

My best advice is not to use prescription meds because of the side effects.  Lots of problems there.  Find out what you can to help him in a natural way as much as possible.  lspryor

As a person who suffered with anxiety attacks for years, I know full well what your boyfriend is going through.  And it is pure hell. I had been to the hospital on a number of occasions. You may want to have him read my hub "Facing My Demon" on my hub page.  I'm sure he will be able to relate to what I am saying.  You may want to read it also. The experience I speak of in the hub definitely changed my life for the better.  Good luck to you both.  If, after reading the hub, you have any further questions, you can email me at mshuntdude@yahoo.com
(please put Anxiety in the subject line of the email if you do so).

    Hi Cherry,

Actually, there is one key factor that makes the difference between those who fully eliminate panic attacks from their lives and those who do not. The key ingredient is not medication, lifestyle changes, or relaxation exercises. It is when the individual no longer fears the thought of having a panic attack..

This may seem like a simplified and obvious observation but give it careful consideration. The one thing that has you searching for a solution to anxiety and panic attacks this very moment is the fear of having another one.

    May it help, GBU!

when it comes down to it, it's a problem that he has to realize the source of. What i have done is allowed myself to feel the complete anxiety, had it increase to the highest possible degree, then realize that when it comes down to it, i will be fine. Medicine is not always the answer. From experience i know that medication can make things worse, and that's what happened to me. But if you can conquer it on your own then you will have found that strength for whenever you need it.

If you have any more questions for you can email me, through hubpages. Hope everything goes well for you.
