   How long will Queen Elizabeth II take before relinquishing her throne to the next one in line?
   
   Now that Britain is celebrating the Queen’s 60th diamond jubilee. Does she intend to fade while on the throne? Is there no pity for the son?

   I doubt that she will.  It has long be held that she sees the  position as a sacred duty.

      H.R.H The Prince of Wales had been groomed for the role of King but loyal subjects of H.M. The Queen are happy ELIZABETH REIGNS over us. Her Majesty has shown such awe inspiring performance in her Royal duties to sheer perfection. Long live The Queen

      May be it is high time the grooming stopped to eradicate speculation on succession issues so that heirs can live without looking forward to ascending to the throne, now that the Queen lives for ever.
      It is sad to imagine it ending the way it is.

   I have the feeling Charles will step down in William's favour when Queen Elizabeth either steps down, or dies 'in harness'. Abdication probably still has a stigma attached in her eyes, since her uncle's abdication in 1936, but she may not carry on if Prince Philip's condition worsens or results in death. Charles might not be tempted to take up the reins, witness Edward VII in 1901. He had to postpone his coronation for a while because of his health after Queen Victoria died. His reign was only too short, but he might have averted WWI with some influence on Kaiser 'Bill' (Wilhelm II). When William has an heir, we might see further developments. Watch this space...
