The Best Social Bookmarking Sites

Updated on November 27, 2010

There are many other hubs that give you full lists, as well as give you more in depth on why to social bookmark. I highly reccomend checking these out.

I, like you, have heard it a million of times. Backlinks are the key to having a high amount of traffic. Backlinks are a must if you want to be successful with Google AdSense. Backlinks are vital for your longevity on the internet. So yes, it’s true, backlinks are important. There are many different ways to get backlinks – you can swap links with a certain website, you can create your own website with a different host and link back to your other sites and you can use social bookmarking. The most popular technique is social bookmarking; it's the easiest, and many people will tell you, the most effective.

The problem with social bookmarking is there are hundreds and hundreds of sites that promise this capability that most people don’t where to start. I know – I’ve spent hours trying hundreds of them. Some are really effective, some a waste of time – many don’t even accept a hub pages URL.

But I’ve compiled a list. It’s not a very big list, but it's list where everyone should start. All these sites, I promise, will give you decent traffic and boost your rankings with Google. By all means you shouldn’t just use the sites on this list; there are many more sites that are more likely worthy of your time. But we all need to start somewhere.

*** I've also included sites like hubpages, or sites the work with AdSense, because those also act like bookmarking sites.

Website: Reddit

What it's like: I like to consider Reddit the baby to Digg. It has almost the identical format to Digg but isn't as chaotic and busy. This means your chance of getting on the front page is greater.

Tips to use Reddit: http://www.doshdosh.com/how-to-get-on-the-reddit-frontpage-and-make-money/ (This one is real eye-opener. Read this, and you'll start to understand the vast complexities of making money online.)

Website: Fark

What it's like: I love Fark, because it - in a way - takes a stab at the rest of the social bookmarking sites. It loves humor, but has a serious side to it as well. The registration is fairly simple but does have process that takes out spammers.

Tips to use: The biggest tip here it to make sure you, in between submitting your sites, post something humorous and fun. The site will love you for it.

Website: SheToldMe

What it's like: This can be a real traffic maker as well as a real money maker. Has a partnership with AdSense, so that they the articles that you 'scoop' have ads beside them. You know the drill: if people click the ads you make money.

Tips to use: Hubbers have made some excellent hubs regarding the topic. Check out these:

Website: Diigo

What it's like: I like to think of Diigo of one of the secret gems of social bookmarking. It's very community based, but if you become apart of the community, and the community loves you - like it usually will - you will get a ton of traffic. It's brilliant.

Website: RedGage

What it's like: First thing first: RedGage is not a SCAM. It's very much real, thriving, and very recommended. It can do two things. It can get you some extra cash, as well as boost traffic. Seems like an obvious pick, doesn't it?

Tips to use: Hubbers rule again:

Website: Xomba

What it's like: It's like SheToldMe but with a much cleaner interface and site. You can also earn money via ad revenue, but not nearly as much as possible at SheToldMe. Here you can submit your own articles, compare to SheToldMe where you can only bookmark.

Tips to use: This one, found on hubpages, is brilliant: Xomba-Maximize Your Earnings From Xomba

Website: Scoopeo

What's it like: I think international bookmarking sites are very, very important. They actually rank much higher on Google's PR system than North American sites, and to get your sites back linked there would be a huge benefit.

Tips to use: Top 25 International Bookmarking Sites (Go here. Submit to half of them. Watch your traffic explode.

Website: Digg

What it's like: Digg is social bookmarking monster, and probably the biggest one out there. If you can manage to get on the front page, your hub will be hit with an enormous - and I mean enormous - amount of traffic. However, a lot of the time, you'll only achieve a small buzz of traffic from the site. The site will however give you good karma with Google and you'll rank higher.
