Myrtle Beach, in Horry County on the eastern side of South Carolina at the Atlantic Ocean, is the center of the Resort and Vacation Industry of this Atlantic Seaboard State.
Back in 2008, the metropolitan market area enjoyed a population of around 300,000 permanent residents, with an increase to 465,391 people in 2013. That makes almost two-thirds more residents in five years.
Before the Revolutionary War, the lands around Myrtle Beach were inhabited by the Waccamah Nation. After European settlement, the new and developing area economy depended upon agriculture in the era of the plantation system.
After the American Civil War, lumber workers from surrounding communities began to come to Myrtle Beach (called New Town until 1938) for relaxation and then the Tourist Industry bloomed to and grow significantly after World War II.
Local industries expected to expand include the following sectors.

Theme Parks include Broadway at the Beach Mall and Park, Freestyle Music Park, and the Family Kingdom Amusement Park. Several malls and outlet stores add to Tourism strength. Downtown Redevelopment on the Ocean
The Pavilion Area Master Plan for Myrtle beach includes at least five areas for revitalization of the Downtown area to bring new residences and business success to the city and Horry County.
The Entry District is a formal Gateway to the city, like an official greeting area and front door. Elements to be improved in an ongoing plan for development are traffic flow and parking, landscaping, sidewalks, sidewalk cafés, a Visitor Center and other features,
A North Entertainment District is planned to increase the level of energy Downtown with multi-family residences, more retail stores, professional offices, and numerous arts and entertainment venues. A Central Amusement District circles the city's Pavilion Amusement Park. Elements there are planned with taller buildings, pedestrian-friendly businesses, cafés, and boutiques. An oceanfront atmosphere is another goal of this particular part of revitalization in the central district.
Myrtle Beach has a South Mixed Use District to be refurbished in an ongoing plan to focus on beachfront properties with small shops and other businesses. Historic preservation is supported in this areas as well. related to this, a Beach District overlaps the other districts to bring together a sense of the waterfront. Beachfront parks and street access to the ocean provide many opportunities for entertaining and relaxing venues.
The Waccamaw People
The Chicora-Waccamaw Nation is known as Waccaman today and headquartered in Horry County in the city of Conway near Myrtle Beach. it was from Conway that European-American lumberman began to venture to Myrtle Beach for respite. The Waccamah People stayed in their original area. They are a State-Recognized Tribe or nation that was awarded 20 acres of land in their original homeland in 2004. With a native village and museum, this overall installation and homelands have become a tourist attraction.

For over 45 years, Myrtle Beach has sponsored the week-long Canadian American Days each spring in honor of Canadian friends to the north that love Myrtle Beach.
Evetns often include dance championships, marching bands, Candian military units and their bands, a retreat, wildlife appreciation days, car shows, St. Patrick's Day celebrations, and dozens of other events, plus lieve entertainment every day and night.
