Tucson Tales

The name of Tucson means village of the dark spring at the foot of the mountains and comes from the Native American word Chuk-son. As people began to repeat the word, the CH changed into a T.

The soldiers of Spain wnadered the area in 1775 and built a town called the Presidio of San Augustin de Tucson. This presidio was a swettlement something like a fort, a potected city within a walled area.

Tucson was named one 13 official US "Solar Cities" in 2007, receiving a grant for $500,000 to develop iots solar power initiative. Solar panels and water heaters have been placed in at large city facilities; and will be repeated at otehrs. A solar education program was also launched in the community. Private business has followed government industries in replacing oil and gas with solar power.

Going Green has brought about the effect of making Tucson the 6th cleanest city in America, as recognized by the American Lung Association. The open air marketplace known as Mercado San Agustin brings that home with completely solar powered lights and enouigh water stored to use for community plants and trees in an undergound rain harvesting process that captures 5,000 gasllons..
