Writing Hub Comments is a Nice Thing To Do and It's Beneficial
Writing comments on hubs that you like, or are interested in is a very nice thing for you to do! It could be beneficial to you and to your fellow hubbers. It adds content to the hub as well as links to your profile which could in turn bring you more visitors.
Think about it. How many hubs have you read and didn't comment on? You may have lost many potential visitors to your own hubs. Here is a model.
You could read 10 hubs after this one and comment each of them, right? Assume that each of those hubs that you've commented on has 10 visitors. Now pretend that you're in math class. 10x10=100. That's 100 potential visitors that you could have to your hubs. Backlinks are great!
Let's further assume that each of these 100 visitors goes to your 3 hubs and comments on them. That's 300 comments. Let's assume that each comment has only 5 words in it. That's 1500 words added to your hubs that you didn't have to write.
Not only could you benefit from the visits and comments, but your visitors could benefit as they could receive visits from your visitors. Do what you will with your visits and comments, but who's to say that you won't get 1000 visitors from doing this, or more. Try creating some great backlinks by writing relative comments to the hub that you've just read!

Also everytime you leave a coment your profile gets a backlink - my profile is now a PR4 and very handy for promoting my other sites which is totally within the HP TOS. I do however spam the odd comment which says "nice hub" and that's it especailly on my better scoring hubs which have lots of intelligent comemnts!

I always make it a point to write comments on hubs. We need to support each other, and it's fun to stay connected through writing. I try to post comments that actually may have some value for the publisher of the hub or the readers. If I can't come up with anything more than "nice hub", I usually just rate the hub.

Ever since I began on Hub pages I try gto make a comment that is at least meaninful or contributory. But I also do it to sharpen my writing skills by commenting on different and varying issues.
Excellent hub but now everone knows the secret!
Writers crave attention too, don't forget that part : ) Seriously though, getting feedback on what you've written is as important as back links are. Sometimes its difficult to comment on every hub you read due to time constraints, but you're right, we should all make an effort. Nicely done, Pro

When you break down the numbers like that...It is almost to the detriment of the reader not to comment.
Nicely said, it does make us feel good as well doesn't it? To let us know that people actually did read what we wrote? We see the hits, but comments are always fun to see, kind of like getting a letter in the mail! The numbers are a great bonus as well!

I like what you said about comment.=) Nicely said it. It is very discouraging to new hubbers that they do not get any comment on whether it is good or constructive criticism.
