   This answer can not be anwsered. Lovercraft looked up to Edgar Allen Poe and yet he did a very unique, dark and sleazy horror genre that was unique at the time, the same as was Poe's before that. they are absolutely two different types of writers and their works are related as solar panels are related to weight loss.
   
   This is really the question who do you like better, but who was better is out of the question. Especially when we know that H.P. looked up to Poe!
   
   I am a great fan of both, I know most of Poe's songs by heart, including Raven, on the other hand I have a customized collection of Lovecraft's short stories hand picked by me, in order they should have been placed in the so called Necronomicon edition of his short stories, but didn't. So again, there is no way t6hat the answer you presented here can be answered as it doesn't make much sense, not for anyone familiar with their history and their work.

   You're not comparing like with like so I agree with Zarko.  I think the only similarity they had was that they were both Anglophiles, if my memory serves me well.
