The January Blahs

January and February can be very difficult months for many people. It is cold outside and many of the winter days are gray and cold! The Christmas decorations have come down and the house seems drab and blah after the colorful Christmas season.

To continue the festive color into the winter months, use red decorating items in your home. Red will add that cheerful color to any room and transition your home after the Holiday Season. Valentine's Day is around the corner and the color is perfect through the month of February.

Items of Interest

Add color to your home during this cold and gray season with candles, table decorations, plants, and even wreaths. Candles are an easy way to distribute color to a shelf or table. Most likely you have a red candle or two left after Christmas.

Table decorations using greenery and a red bow are very effective. Center your table with this cheerful arrangement and brighten the whole room. A simple green wreath with a red bow or red apples or even a red butterfly will add cheer to your front door or fireplace during the month of January. Decorate a lamp shade or candle with a bright redbird or butterfly. Colorful place mats and table runners can brighten your kitchen eating area.

My geranium is blooming right now. I placed it on the front porch Because of its red color. It loves this winter weather in Central Texas. Do you have a scatter rug with red that you can place in the entrance hall?

Hang a Valentine strand of hearts across the fireplace for color. Add wooden red hearts to an end table for color. There are valentine vases available in your local store for added charm. You can fill a clear vase with red candies or confetti for an inexpensive accent piece. The ideas are limitless!

The month of January is a long one with thirty one days. You have plenty of time to put some special color into this often difficult time of year. The daylight hours are short and Depression is a reality for some people because of the lack of sunny days during the winter. Now is an important time to be creative and colorful. Have fun!

Lighting Is Important Too

To add warmth and charm to your decor, turn on the lamps. Nothing feels more cozy than the gentle light from your favorite lamp. Adding light to dark corners can be calming and make your home feel cozy. Even if you do not have guests during the drab months of winter, your enhanced decor can be enjoyed by You! Chase away those doldrums with some red decor!
