If you won the lottery, would you take the lump sum or a payment over time?
This would be tough, and I think a lot of it depends on your age and your needs. I'm in my very early 30s and I'd probably take the lump sum, but I feel like I'm good with money. A large amount of that would go in investments and to set up a trust for my kids. It's one of those things that's interesting to think about.
I would take the full sum and would invest it or spend it. Even if you prefer payment over time, better arrange it yourself instead of waiting someone else to give you portions of the cash.
I'd take the lump sum.............................................
I would take the lump sum and stick it in the bank, make my spending cash in interest alone. If you can't manage all of your money, why would you be able to manage bits and pieces of it?
I'd take the lump sum, save, and invest it. I would not take the payment over time simply because the agency that pays the funds to you is making money off of the interest whereas the money could be working in your favor if you took the lump sum, educated yourself, and acted accordingly. If you are playing, good luck.
Lump sum, I don't trust the government to have it twenty years from now. I would pay off any debt I have, invest some and donate some for homeless animals.
