Bum Pay Raises

It is very difficult for the USA citizens to believe they must be without Health care, Social Security, Jobs, Benefits because the USA is impoverished while Congress votes to give itself a 3% salary increase.

It should be noted that Michelle Bachmann is one of the people receiving the pay raise.

Why reform Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security when Congress gives itself a 3 % pay raise? How is that a shared sacrifice Washington, DC is sharing with American people? Or is Congress just choking the very people they claim to be representing?

This hub was written two years ago and it is as true today as it was two years ago. Congress is consistent.

Throw the Bums Out Now!!!

Personally, I will not vote for anyone in Congress who has given themselves a raise during these horrible economic times. It is time to throw all the bums out of DC. The biggest welfare recipients in the USA are the government and that includes Michelle Bachmann.

There is nothing left for Washington to take from the poor and disenfranchised. The only people who have anything left to take is Congress. I think they all need pink slips. Unemploy them and perhaps then and only then will they begin to feel the pain the rest of this country does. If they don’t feel our pain then how can they possibly represent any of us?

I wouldn't tell you how to vote. My Audience is smart enough to make up their own minds but I wouldn't vote for anyone who gave themselves a raise during the dire economic times. But that is only my opinion and I look forward to hearing yours.

As for Bachmann, I find her to be incredulous as a candidate while giving herself a raise and claiming to be a fiscal conservative. Apparently, she is not a fiscal conservative when it comes to voting herself a raise.

Shared Sacrifice

Do you think Congress should have give itself a raise during horrible economic times in our country?

Throw the Bums Out

America's In Soup Lines and Congress Keeps Maxing Out the USA Credit Card

Update October 2, 2013

Astonishingly, the bums that are in office are now worse than they were two years ago when I first write this article. A lot of Congress lost their seats but the body of Congress only functions dysfunction ally. As I write to you this evening, Congress has fired almost a million federal employees who I feel very sorry for but there are no jobs outside of government in this country any longer. Unemployment has sky rocketed.

This entire knock down drag out fight is over Obamacare which I have significant concerns about however when Michelle Bachmann starts speaking she is killing the Republican cause. Please someone get the hook and get her out of the public light. It could have been a legitimate debate but Bachmann spin is just way too much.

Please Shut This Woman Up!

Running From the Team Party

There are those of us Republicans (Old Guard) who do not recognize the Neo-cons or the Tea Party who are extremely liberal especially with the people's money. I would argue that the foundation of the Republican Party is not the conservatives but the moderates. While I consider myself old guard and not moderate I have a lot of Democratic friends. The worst part of all of this is that once again they are going to default and not raise the debt ceiling (Where is all the money going?) while almost a million federal employees are unemployed, and over a a Healthcare Act which has already passed.

Congress is on the clock. The bickering and fighting seems like petty power games by people who have no money, sense of morality to divide the country by partisanship. My position will continue to be to vote these guys out until they start working for the people instead of their own self interests.

With the debt ceiling needing to be raised again, Congress shutting down the federal government, and their inability to work effectively and efficiently handling the people's business what do they do?

Enlight of Government Being Shut Down and the Need to Raise the Debt Ceiling...

What do you think Congress has done?

  • Resigned because they have recognized their own incompetence?
  • Walked across the isle and attempted to manage the people's business efficiently?
  • Compromised and refused to take a salary while so many people are living in poverty?
  • Gave themselves yet another raise because they think they are doing a fantastic job!

And Congress is not alone!

Raise the Debt Ceiling to Pay for Representative Salaries?

Do you think we should raise the debt ceiling to pay for policians' raises when they habitually mismanage the finances of our country?

Update October 3, 2013

Congress proves me right everytime. Today there was a shooting in DC of a woman in a car with a child. The details are sketchy and I am certain that we will find out more in days to come but they claim it is not terrorism related.

  1. There are shootings everyday in neighborhoods all around America and it is barely mentioned in the news at all. So for DC to go into this lock down mode over one erratic driver is amazing to me. Congress needs to ride down the Ronald Reagan Turnpike!
  2. All of Congress had safe rooms to run to. The average person is out there naked and unprotected in the world. I saw an interview with a family from DC that was near the site and they were told to lie on the ground by the police but then ran in the bushes when they heard more gunfire.
  3. Congress, who can not do their jobs and will let this debt ceiling fall, has an army while everyone in America is on their own hiding in the bushes? With a 10% approval rating and shutting down the government, Congresses only hope for being useful was to be the body armor of those they represent in DC on this very tragic day but alas Congress proves they are cowardly, lazy bums who are absolutely useless.

You have to wonder why we have representative because they are so divorced from the real world and the consequences of their actions that they are useless. Throw the bums out until they learn to be responsible, accountable and serve the people they represent and not just claim to represent.

In Conclusion

It is breath taking how out of touch Washington DC is with the average person. It is just getting worse. I remember something about checks and balances and it seems like a den of cronies scratching each other's back. There was a time when we could be proud to be an American but those days have passed. Our leaders are so corrupt and greedy; our country resembles a third world country run by feudalism. It is the "Me Generation to the nth degree" in DC and I advocate for all of the bums to be thrown out and to continue to throw out our leaders until the bums get it they work for us. Keep throwing them out too until they no longer resemble these individuals. I am non-partisan. If you are serving in Congress right now consider this your notice that the American people await your resignation and that goes for anyone serving and has nothing to do with party affiliation. Goodbye, DC. Farewell!

It is boring. Same old...same old!

JT,

While I agree that Congress is overcompensated, paying them all nothing wouldn't help a hill of beans in the big picture. The issue is we owe over $100 trillion in federal debt, and can't pay it.

The "official" (investor owned) debt can be handled by chopping federal payroll about 50%, and raising revenues by about $1 trillion per year (scrapping the FIT for a 20% national sales tax). This would close the federal operating deficit, and allow repayment of the $15 trillion of official debt plus interest thereon over about 30 years.

But the "off balance sheet" debt is too big to ever be repaid. It is about $90 trillion, or six times GNP. All we can do is phase out SS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., so the erased liabilities permit most of the off balance sheet debt to be ripped up. Besides, the federal entitlement programs aren't even legal (the federal government has no constitutionally enumerated power to operate them).

Bachmann isn't the problem here. Blame it on FDR, the Democrats, and RINO's (almost all of the GOP).

People like Bachmann are the solution. A TPM president and TPM saturated Congress would go after the debt with a vengeance. Imagine a government absolutely saturated with people like Bachmann, the Pauls, Jim DeMint, Mike Lee, Pat Toomey, etc. Finally those fat paychecks would really be earned.

TPM and Bachmann gave themselevs a raise in terrible economic times and that is the issue and we should throw all the bums out. You would have the disabled and the elderly fo without any health care. You are suggesting a return to Nazi Germany!!!!

How you treat the weakest people in society speaks greatly about your character and TPM are in the toilet on this one. No abuse to the disabled and the elderly. I notice that the TPM don't support issues helping the disabled including our veterans...shame...shame ...shame. And Bachmann giving herself a raise when ordinary people are struggling to put food on the table for shae on her and the TPM as well. How about congress give up their salaries and their benefts before anyone in this country does without again!!!

No votes for Bachmann or TPM who gives themselves a raise during the worst economic times in our history ad hides from the gay advocates in the bushes.

Okay?

No thank!! Washington DC is really going to have to change to stay in power...REALLY!!

JT,

I'm not against ALL social programs. I just have some common sense conditions:

(1) The feds must be out of it totally, and the states must take them over entirely (due to the Tenth Amendment).

(2) The programs must be purely needs based.

(3) The programs (pensions, unemployment, welfare, etc.) should be consolidated within each state to eliminate duplicate overhead.

(4) The benefit formulas must be fundable with NO BORROWING. Each year's payout "floats" based on affordability (i.e., no long term guarantee of the annual benefit amount; only a guarantee of the benefit duration).

The idea is to meet the need, but not go bankrupt.

But Stu, what would the sates do if they didn't rip of ther social programs to justifiy their existence by paying up to the DC crowd? Money moves out of the states and into the federal government.

All MY Best,

JT

Stu From VT 5 years ago

"Money moves out of the states and into the federal government." - That's the whole damn issue. Starve the feds into the shoebox they were intended to be in, and let the states provide for themselves. Absent the feds high taxes, excessive regulations, etc., the people would make more money, state revenues would increase, and the states could operate their own social programs.

Apart from the military, treaties, and coinage, I say close everything else in DC down. The whole stupid thing should fit in 3 square city blocks, and I mean small ones.

Stu,

DC lives to rip off the States and the People. It is how they all live so well there. Bachmann included!!! So I guess you are suggesting that DC for the first time ever changes the way it does business? How would the Intelligence agencies function without ripping off the states?

You should read my Hub on Senator Bill Nelson!!! DC would end you and I before they would change their behavior.

Hi JT,

That's why we need ALOT more non-establishment pol's like Jim DeMint in Congress (and the WH too). The fed's CAN be changed. The method is to starve them of money. We need to get something in the Constitution capping the federal operating budget at a tiny percent of GNP, and limit its taxing power to pay the tiny operating expenses, and liquidate preexisting debt. This, in combination with uncompromisingly strict court enforcement of enumerated powers, would reduce the fed's to a miniscule set of vital national services, instead of letting it be a hydra-headed ruler. The states were intended to be sovereign; the states formed the union, not the other way around.

Stu,

You can't change a system from the outside and no one on the inside seems to be able to fend off temptation. Even if Demint was elected he would cave to the temptations and the bribes just like every other president.

So there I was, it was 1991, home from serving in the military that had just won the most lopsided victory in human history, Operation Desert Storm.

Congress gave me a 1.8% pay raise, and gave itself a 150% pay raise.

JT Walters profile image

And still raising!!!

Thank you for your service to our country. I have known people from Kuwait and I am aware of Operation Desert Storm's inequities but worse is Congress never ever believes they will lose their jobs for giving themselves a raise while letting the people go hungry!!

Hi JT,

I think you are very wrong about DeMint and those like him. The problem is that there are only about ten of them currently incumbent. They have no real power yet.

Stu,

You can disagree with me and you have done so respectfully and I appreciate that. But I thought I would post you this link of the wet tee-shirt pary of the Tea Party Movement which should be called the wet tee shirt party movement.

I don't dislike DeMint. I just don't like the wet tee shirt party crowd.
