Has anyone started a campaign on a humanitarian cause? If so, what was it? and what did you do?

Depends on what you mean by "humanitarian."  I co-chair an environmental action group that I just reorganized. We're directing our focus more toward illustrating lifestyle changes our 115+ list serve members could make - like urban gardening and the use of native plants - in addition to the political focus it had when I first started chairing. There is a point at which we have to start changing the way we live to become less dependent on coal and oil products, or we're going to starve ourselves to death.

Interesting point, I did not think of the correlation between environment and humanitarian, but I do see it now, since environmental issues relate to peoples' well-being.  If we do not take the initiatives and use the resources we have available, it will be difficult for us as a nation to be self-sufficient.  I am sure campaign revolves around many fine-line humanitarian causes.  One thing that I do like is seeing the connections between different actions from organizations that take on for various actions for specific causes.  Things look simple and can be simply done, but with large numbers the end results do deliver change.

I have an idea of starting a campaign with various Non-profits that would specialize in protecting the rights of women against violence by using various television networks to emphasize how violence against women is detrimental to the overall mental/physical health of a family.   If certain countries can gain the support of television networks to emphasize the consequences of  violence against women, then maybe the countries that aren't as advance as the United States and the European Union can get on board to change the cultures of the nations that still face gender discrimination.

My questions is to learn what organizations did to fight for specific causes.  Thank you so much for your input.  I greatly appreciate it.
