   Depends on who you are. If you're gay its Chick-fil-a (I love that that rhymes), if you're a liberal it's women's rights with Mitt Romney being so against them, if your a conservative its social security because that is a big part of the deficit and a socialist program but also a major vote killer.

      Randslam, there has been no state church in America since the colonial era. No one is forced to support one. There is a state ideology in the US, the progressivism of the liberal establishment. All taxpayers are forced to support that. No difference.

      It is wrong to attack someone for their beliefs, but there is a difference between belief and policy. I abhor abortion and will talk as many people out of it as I can, but my beliefs should not become policy.

   When speaking about the U.S., it would be tolerance… pick any subject and it will boil down to this. Those who hold a particular belief or ideology, not tolerating a differing belief. We all want our freedoms, but we have become too self-absorbed in enforcing our beliefs on others. We forget that tolerance is the very foundation of freedom.

       I'm not conservative, I am a Christian. I don't get involved in politics, same as Jesus. When they tried to make him king, he left. Christians are supposed to be preaching the Kingdom of God, not man's governments.(which have all been failures. btw)

   I agree with Jthom down there. central to the gay issue as well as evolutionism, is the question,"is there a God?". Anyone who has done in depth and unbiased research into the matter would have to agree that ther definitely must be a Creator. So many go into the subject with an agenda, and never see the light.

      God and gay are separate issues unless you are a Levite. Jesus never mentioned gay (but did repeatedly speak out against Leviticus) and Paul never spoke bad about gay if you go back and read his work in its original Greek. Research that.

      compare leviticus 24:20 to mathew 5:38. Any time Jesus says you have hear it said by them of old, there is a corresponding passage in Leviticus that he is directly contradicting. Look it up. Being told what the Bible says is not knowing what it says.

      Jesus wasn't speaking out against Leviticus. The Mosaic Law (including Leviticus) was for the Israelites, and served them for centuries, But Jesus was instituting a new way to be as a Christian. Same with those who live by the sword will die by it .

      Jesus contradicted Leviticus repeatedly because they were man made laws added to the law of Moses. When Paul was translated few people read greek so it was easy to change things. Now we know the word mistranslated to gay referred to male prostitutes

    Lack of tolerance, lack of wisdom, lack of cooperation, etc...these are issues of controversy.  The media stirs up controversy...as do ministers and politicians...it's time for some T-O+L+E x R=A=N--C--E...easy to spell, say, and understand...seems impossible for most religious zealots, politicians and ministers to do.
    
    Look it up...you'll like it...actually allows you to live a neighbourly life...like in Mayberry...y'know on TV?  Respect your fellow humans and let them believe what they want...it's no skin off of your nose.
    
    This could work...no war, no arguments...just learning and increased efficiency and progress towards common goals of global peace, no hunger and equity for all.
    
    What a pursuit for happiness this could be.

    Maybe I am wrong, but all I can think about at the moment regarding the whole world is the Olympics, as this is the most popular topic in these days.
    Apart from that there are some more topics of course, but it is good that people talk a lot about the Olympics, as they forget a little bit about their own, much more serious 'problems' - at least in my opinion.
    In fact, politics, religion and sexual orientations are evergreen topics and of course everything in fact, that can even slightly fit into these topics will create controversion between humanity (like present politicians, presidents, freedom, history, tolerance, ideologies, gay/bisexsual orientations, abortion, etc.).
    Mabye that's why I don't like to speak about these topics at all .
