What are your thoughts on all the gaffes from Biden? All parties invited to answer.
Vice President Joe Biden has made many gaffes the most recent one being the most egregious. Yesterday Biden told a group of Obama followers in Danville Virginia "They're gonna put y'all back in chains." What would the Liberals and the Liberal media had done were it Romney or Ryan who made this comment?
This was taken out of context and is being spun into something ridiculous to distract people from paying attention to anything that is important. Both parties do this and that's how they are able to get away with all the BS they do, because people eat this nonsense up and go on and on about it instead of paying attention to our real problems. Same stuff, different election cycle. *yawn*
If you look up what Biden actually meant, instead of how it was spun by Romney's camp and the right winger talkshows, you'll see that what he said was not how it is being dramatized by Romney's camp. Distract, blow smoke, create diversions and then no one will push the important questions like where are your tax returns, what did you actually do while in charge of Bain? etc. Politicians do it and people keep falling in the trap of paying attention to this drivel instead of what we actually need to be looking at.
Predictable and sad.
Important issues are tax returns and Bain? No those are the distractions of the Obama campaign so you ignore the REAL issues of the economy, jobs and the policy failures of the last 3.5 years.
Yes, the subjects Romney is actively avoiding are his involvement in Bain - his platform is being an experienced businessman originally. He's evading showing taxes - why? Both are in fact important to establishing his credibility
How does one "look up what Biden actually meant"...The old adage of believe 'NONE of what you hear and 1/2 of what you see...' No one knows what Joe Biden 'meant' in his heart. The only thing we can 'go by' is what Joe Biden said. Sassy is right.
I'm willing to bet you all listened to soundbites and not the full speech, you can look up that the term he meant was "shackled" and it was taken from a previous republican attack against them - react less, learn more.
The only person to know what Joe Biden meant, and I mean the ONLY person is Joe Biden. About Romney avoiding sowing taxes. Why is Obama avoiding HS and college record release. What's good for the goose is good for gander. We've got bigger fish to fry
The unregulated financial sector along with the terrible policies of the Bush administration led to one of the most disastrous financial collapses in our history, wiped out vast amounts of wealth, and now has half of the country living in poverty. Putting us in chains seems apt to me. I don't really know what the problem with that is. And if the Republicans win they will return to the exact same Bush pattern (i.e. returning us to chains). Even if he actually meant shackle instead of chains I don't see either one as a gaffe.
With that being said, I don't really know why Biden is the VP. I think there are a lot of better choices. And yes we all know he is prone to saying silly things, I think that primarily matters to strong conservatives. For the average person I think Biden is just a likeable guy. He doesn't really hurt or help.
There are a lot of things that led to the collapse, most of which were caused by the government regulations. The most terrible policy of the Bush administration was to continue big government like his father and Clinton.
I completely agree. He used the wrong word but the point was the same - and true.
It's always refreshing to hear that Bush is to blame for everything; I hadn't read that for about 5 minutes. The only reason Biden is VP is because Obama wants someone who will propose nothing and never challenge him. Biden's ambitions have ended.
I blamed him for very specific things. You probably hear it a lot because it is true.
KK Trainer, you're kidding aren't you? Am I daft? The actions of NO ONE MAN caused the collapse-how about 80 + years of waste, policy and regulatory mistakes?
Teamrn, KK was being sarcastic. Feel free to spread the blame around, but the Republican agenda during Bush's reign deserves an enormous amount of it.
Junk, Dubya bears some brunt, Clinton, Bush, Carter, Ford, and for eons. So, do the American people for not paying attention as their country headed towards the abyss with overreg. Will Americans learn that they can't put government on 'auto-pilot?'
Oh, well, the American people are top on my list of people to blame. I thought that went without saying.
LOTS led to the collapse, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd overregulated us to death. Putting us back in chains seems apt? JUNK, where's the koolaid menu? Republicans actually admit a problem and want to lead us out. Obama doesn't admit and doesn't lead.
Collapse happened after a long period of deregulation. How can you argue that over-regulation is the problem? Financial masters backed by government assurance took huge gambles and lost.
Nathan, "Of course they have a record to run on," What ix that record, I'm dying to know it, other than how great a husband and father he is. THAT DOES NOT RUN A COUNTRY AND LEAD.
Everyone gaffs. I remember well when Mitt Romney said that he liked being able to fire people, and when he said he had been an NRA card carrying member all his life, when he had just purchased a gun two weeks before. And I remember when Obama said that there were 57 states instead of 50. The Media always jumps all over people who make gaffs, no matter who they are.
We all know that Biden has a big mouth, and that he loves to use it. The two do not combine well when you are in public office. Besides, in two more days, Romney will make another gaff, and the media will forget about Biden. Its not fair, but it is how the media works.
exactly, focusing on triviality instead of actual issues.
That's is because the team of Obama/Biden have no issues to focus on, no politics that succeeded, no record to run on, so they fan any flames possible. I'd not be surprised if this gaffe was planned at Uncle Joe's expense-poor Uncle Joe
Of course they have a record to run on, just not one that you like. Romney, on the other hand, is, as the British tabloids were fond of pointing out, "Nowhere Man".
Drugs, eating dog, no records. So, it's become an issue of focus on Romney's taxes, Ryan's throwing granny off the cliff (ANOTHER MEDIA NON-TRUTH). Since no issues to address, no accomplishments,'the best defense' for B/O is a Chgo-style offense!
You might want to take a harder look at reality. Ryan's plan adds billions to the debt and doesn't balance the budget until 2030. Even Romney is trying to distance himself from it. And Republicans haven't put anything on the table. They have no plan.
How does Rya's plan add billions Not ONE Democrat voted for Obama plan. "Republicans haven't put anything on table-Ryan plan? several budgets? Harry Reid? .Romney not trying to distance-he doesn't agree wit all. That's a far cry from DISTANCING.
It is truly amazing that this guy gets away with all the crazy things he says. Romney or Ryan would have been branded white racists for sure.
I also think its interesting that Biden, (a democrat), eludes to they all, (republicans), want to put you back in chains. I guess he forgot that the southern slave owners were democrats and the anti slavery party was the republican party.
George Bush was ripped apart by CNN and MSNBC because he went to open a door that was locked and it did not magically open because it knew he was the president. That was called "evidence of stupidity", and Biden called "Jobs" a three letter word!
It is sickening how unfair the media is, but what is even more sickening is the people allowing this. People from all political beliefs should acknowledge obvious bias and demand fairness. Otherwise there is no way of making any real progress.
Skarlet - I think you are right on the mark. If it would have been a Republican making this statement we would have been hearing crys of racism far and wide. I don't get why others cannot see what is really going on with the liberal media...
Liberal media = lol. Fox "news" is an example of definitely non-liberal and biased media. ALL politicians always blame the media or other side or focus on gaffes instead of talking honestly about issues due to weak platforms.
ChristinS, Yes, liberal media. What else can one call the summation of ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, CSNBC, vs 1 Conservative FOX. However, FOX has lib AND Conserv guests, only REAL Conservative show is Hannity. MTP?
I think the media points out gaffes to distract us from substantive issues. I have never heard Biden ever say anything bad.
You are kidding, right? Every time that man opens his mouth he sticks his foot in it.
He says dumb things sometimes, sure. They ALL do. You are exactly right, BOTH sides latch on to silly mistakes instead of focusing on what's important as a distraction.
Even though I'm conservative, I formed this opinion many years ago when I was much more moderate and Joe Biden was in the Senate. The man is quite bright, but seems to have become addle-brained and only 'opens his mouth to change feet!'
AJ, nope; I'm not kidding. Can you qualify your statement? I've never met anyone that was offended by what the man said. All I hear is people repeating what the media tells them about Biden's "gaffes". The media is a filter that distracts from issues
There's a youtube video SETION devoted to Biden'ss gaffes. In fact, all you need to do is look uu BIDEN GAFFES in YouTube and they abound,; my personal favorite:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxdj-ZwKNZ0
The media would have roasted Romney or Ryan. I do have to say though, I am SOOOO loking forward to a Biden vs Ryan debate.
Can hardly wait for that debate myself! I am sure it will be very enlightening and great entertainment.
ChristinS, taken out of context: NOT. But being spun to distract us from real issues. Biden/Obama, unfortunately HAVE no real issues. That's sad.
I've met the man more than once - casually. He wouldn't know me if he ran a dump truck over me.
He's very engaging and pleasant in a social venue, but this lack of judgment ("This is a big f'n deal!") is appalling and dangerous. I've been known to use that word but never in a Courtroom or on television. Biden either hasn't grown up or he has a medical/mental issue.
Yes, he was engagin and pleasant, especially when saying 'you'd better not go into a 7 Eleven without an Indian accent/ What about the wheelchair incident? Surely he has prep people. "Barack America?" He was in politics too long.
You clearly misinterpreted my "answer." He IS engaging and pleasant in a SOCIAL setting, like a dinner or cocktail party.
I'm NOT agreeing with him or making excuses for him.
34th! No doubt he is engaging, etc, but that doesn't erase the gaffes. He's the VPOTUS, for gosh sakes. Not even Dan Quayle was that bad. Represents the USA? No misinterpreting your 'answer!'
You do realize I'm agreeing with you, right?
" No misinterpreting your 'answer!'" I kind of think that that statement says I know you're kidding
It is a gift to have Biden as an opponent. His gaffes are so over the top weird I sometimes think he's losing his mind. He simply is not very bright, which is why he thinks about things that can only be summarized on bumper stickers.
if for no other reason than for some comic relief:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxdj-ZwKNZ0
It could be anyone, but, why look when Joe Biden does it so well?
He's an idiot, plain and simple. Remember how many times the Dan Quayle potato thing was talked about on the news, they still bring it up! But Biden's are generally forgotten in a few days because everyone knows he is going nowhere. He has no ideas, no ambitions and no future. He probably says dumb stuff just to push Obama's buttons because he resents having to be his lackey.
Junk, How can I 'argue' that financial overregulation caused the problem? I'm a free-market economist and I feel that the market will right itself and the fewer the regulations, the better. We need to regulate against the greed of the Bernie Maddoffs
CRUCIFIED them, or tarred and feathered. Unfortunately, much of the media is liberal and/or 'in the tank' for President Obama, so comments like these go unaddressed+we've all gotten quite used to Joe Biden's 'open mouth, insert foot' disease.
However, had the same remarks been made by Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan, Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews would have had a field day.
Well said Teamrn! The liberals are saying that these "mistakes" don't mean anything, but if a republican had done done any of this it would be used as proof of total stupidity.
Nathan, "just not one that you like. " Name a few. No taxes revisions, no jobs, healthcare not at all like he said, promises broken within weaks, commits us to Afghanistan>2024, the ultimate Robin Hood? Say there's more.
He is known for his slip ups and his mouth, so while I am NOT a Biden fan, I think the media is overreacting. Was it a stupid, insensitive thing to say, absolutely - but it is time to move on to the issues.

Here once again Biden stands at a podium swings around his hands, and rants, seeking and appoint blame on American citizens, ultimately Republican citizens. Without cause, without proof of the motive of why or what possessed this nut job that attacked Paul Pelosi. Although in front of only a...
