UMMM-- absolutely NOT!!! People already have access to medical care through the emergency rooms of hospitals. If you don't contribute to this society, you don't deserve handouts from the society. Working poor get medicaid already!
Yes. There are a great many of us who have jobs that either don't offer health care or have insurance plans that still make it difficult if not impossible to afford medical costs. We tend to fall in the cracks, making too much to qualify for assistance, but not enough to pay the bills. It's not that we don't contribute, we do. And it benefits everyone in the end, by having a healthier population overall, which improves our lives and allows us to miss fewer days of work. This helps increase the economy overall. Countries with national healthcare have shown to have better quality of life and longer life expectancy than the US. Why shouldn't we want that ourselves?
Health care reform is essential because 40 million Americans don't have health care insurance or access to good health care and because if skyrocketing costs of our present system are allowed to continue health care will be unaffordable to all but the richest Americans. Medical bills are the most frequent cause of bankruptcy. When people change jobs or lose their jobs they often lose their health coverage. Health care insurance companies and drug companies are bribing our legislators and our doctors. And for-profit medicine is supplanting traditional patient centered medicine as explained by Atul Gawande in his recent thought-provoking articles in the New Yorker here--

Have you considered not signing up for health care insurance under the new health care reform? We had an agent come in and talk with us the other day at my job (which does not supply insurance), and he told us that the fine we get if we fail to sign up is 1% of our annual income. If I have an annual...

Curious as to what people who are against everyone having healthcare think should be done for those who really can't afford healthcare. What are the other options? Continue down the same road we are on now?

I have been listening to how the government has a billion dollars for getting people to sign up for the Affordable Healthcare Act. Would that money have been better spent training more doctors and building new hospitals? New Jersey has closed how many community hospitals in the last few...
