   What makes you think that white people do not understand racism? Of course we understand it and want it to just go away. It seems that the black community are the ones who are still bound to the past and want to blame everything that happens in their life on something or someone they never knew. For all races life is not fair. We all struggle with our own demons everyday. To single out white people as not understanding racism is like saying we wished slavery still existed. This is so far from the truth. We want equality for all mankind; not only those who scream racism at the drop of a hat.

      JT, It's not a matter of blacks being bound by the "past". Just about every black person has experienced racism in their own lifetime. Most Jews, Native Americans, Muslims, & Hispanics could say the same thing! Racism is not just a "black" issue.

      That is what I was trying to say dashing. Maybe I worded it wrong. Yes, I believe ALL of us have experienced racism in some form or another. But, we have those who scream racism at the drop of a hat.

      I agree there  are some people who scream racism every time something doesn't go their way. Speaking of (isms) men are often attacked by virtue of their gender. I heard one woman say all men are "no good dogs" and another said all men are rapists

   I think it's very risky to make a blanket statement concerning a whole race, religion, sexuality, etc,. 'White people' include people who do understand it and people who do not understand it, just like anything else. There are racists in every, single ethnic group throughout the world, including your own, as well as mine.
   
   Have you never seen the videos of white parents vs black/brown parents? White parents are depicted as soft and pushovers, where black parents are seen as hard and stern. I personally don't find it offensive to myself but I can see how somebody else might.
   
   Some people have not been educated on different cultures or chose not to seek information themselves. Many don't realise that slavery was alive and well for many black peoples family's, from great grandmothers and some even grandmothers. It wasn't that long ago and understandably these people are still hurt.
   
   Having said that, you hear 'nigger' a hell of a lot in movies, music, facebook, etc. Do these people even realise where the term 'nigger' came from? Slaves were referred to by their their masters, as nigger. I think it's more than white people who need educating on racism.
   
   Some, not all, non-white people are only too happy to shout racism where it may not even exist. Racism is alive throughout ALL ethnic groups, but I've not heard all ethnic groups shout about it. There is a label for everybody; Terrorists, thieves, honky, yellow bellies, christ-killer, coon, curry muncher, frog, greaser, half-breed, jungle-bunny, oreo, paki, redneck...these are just a fraction of the terms that are still used today.

      The question asked doesn't mention any minority race! And yet every response to this question singles out (blacks)!
      I find that fascinating! Certainly Native Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Jews, Muslims endure racism too. Danicole sited no race.

   I don't believe it's so much as not "understanding" as it is being tired of hearing about it. There is a large amount of frustration that comes with being reminded of previous generations transgressions over and over again. When one feels powerless sometimes they lash out in anger.
   I suspect Germans are weary of hearing about World War II.
   Simply put no one can "undo" the past. However there are incidences that do occur from time to time which prove racism hasn't been put to death. People also have a right  to examine and learn of their history.
   Whites should not be afraid to acknowledge racism does in fact exist and minorities should not (automatically jump to conclusions) that every denial or rude behavior they encounter has to do with race. Some people are jerks to everyone!

   It is unrealistic to believe white people do not understand racism.  A black person dislike a white person = okay. A white person dislikes a black person = racism. White person kills a black person = hate crime. Black person kills a white person = NOT a hate crime. White person gets called a cracker = white person deserves it because hundreds of years ago white people bought slaves. Black person gets called a bad word = racism.
   The entire racism thing is crap!!! Every one hates someone. That's life. It is human nature. I am half white half Hispanic raised by predominately black foster parents. I have been called every name imaginable. I have yet to meet a white person who doesn't understand racism. They either are a racist or they have experienced racism. Racism isn't just about one race.

      I hear you! The question is "Why do white people do not understand racism?"
      Why is everyone automatically bringing up blacks? Do they not believe Hispanics, Asians, Jews, and Muslims contend with racism? Why single out (blacks)? hmm Interesing

      dashing.... I would say because of what is going on in Ferguson right now. Plus you have people like Al Sharpton only fanning the flames of racism in an already volatile community.

      Other than Ferguson, I'd say blacks are brought up first because racism directed towards Jews, Hispanics, and Muslims is still deemed ok by a majority of the 2 primary races in USA. JMO

      peeples, It's doubtful Asians, Hispanics, Jews, and Muslims think it's okay to be called racist slurs. I think we do a disservice to act as if there are only blacks & whites in the world. The word racism is not synonymous with (black) issues.

      The two primary races in USA are blacks and whites. I didn't say I think the others think it is ok. I just don't think white/black ppl see racism towards the others as bad as towards white/black. Sad but true.

      It only (seems) that way. According to Census reports Hispanic and Latino Americans as a racially diverse ethnicity  composes the (largest minority group) in the nation! Whites are 77.7%, Hispanics are 17.1%  and Blacks13.2% of the population.
