Good morning everyone and God Bless! Although I am a Liberal, I know that as an intelligent, thinking person there are two sides to an issue.   Each side, whether Liberal or Conservative, have the unmitigated right to present their opinions, consensus, and analysis of an issue without recrimination.

What do you think about the next four years in America?   Do you think it is going to be better or worse?  Why? Why not?    What are your concerns about key issues such as unemployment/employment, unions, same sex marriage, freedom of religion, abortion, women's equality, and abortion/reproductive issues?

C'mon, NOW is YOUR chance to FREELY express YOUR CONCERNS without any fear of recrimination?   This is YOUR forum, so speak out!

Although it probably will not make a difference as most liberals just plain hate conservatives, here is some insight on what being conservative really means.
    1.  Conservation in nearly all things.  Conserve the land for future generations.
    2.  Conserve the freedoms that our forefathers fought and died for.
    3.  Conserve the Constitution as it is the blueprint for freedom and equality.
    4.  Conserve one's treasure that they have work hard and diligently to obtain.
    5.  Conserve the air and water, so that our children and their children may enjoy a less polluted environment.
Just a few things that make a conservative, a conservative.
Most conservatives actually believe what you do in your own bedroom is your own concern, as long as you don't flaunt it and make a big deal about it.
Most conservatives believe since heterosexuals came up with the idea of marriage, it is theirs and if homosexuals want some kind of a union, they can come up with their own thing.
Most conservatives believe you should be able to worship however you please, but since the majority of the founders and their descendants are Judeo-Christian, their values are the basis for this country and its laws and customs.  There is room for other values and customs, but they should not override the majority.
Most conservatives believe that unions are no longer the useful tool they started out as, but rather now are a political base for for socialist activity.  The rank and file have little voice, the top heavy leaders of the union use dues as personal slush fund for whatever purpose 'they' deem fit, including outrageous salaries.
Most conservatives believe that all people, regardless of race, gender, etc. are created equal and should be treated as such.  In fact most conservatives hold women in higher esteem than they do males.
Most conservatives are against abortion.  As they are against all murders.
My personal viewpoint is that while abortion may be legal, it should not be encouraged.  Everyone has a right to decide for themselves, but abortion should be done sparingly and with much thoughtful consideration of the consequences.   I'm thankful my mother never considered it.
Those that rail against the death penalty, in many cases rabidly support abortion.  How ironic.

Most conservatives believe that constant unemployment is self inflicted.  If one does not have a paying job, give some labor to charitable causes.  Unemployment benefits should not last a lifetime.  They should have a defined limit and not be extended everytime they run out.  There are jobs out there for many, if you can pass a drug test and are reasonably intelligent.  In fact there is one company in the midwest that is sending people to school and paying for much of it so that they can get qualified employees to run hi tech machinery.
Food stamps should be for those that genuinely need them.  If you are on them, why should you be able to use food stamps for ice cream etc., when many of us paying for the food stamps cannot afford that luxury?
An acquaintance who, by the way, is a liberal, was in a store and happened to see two people with full carts check out. They were obviously together from his observation.  The first cart had many food items, including junk food and ice cream, things of that nature.  The person with that cart paid with food stamps.  The second person had a cart full of liquor.  He pulled out a large wad of 20's and paid cash for the booze.
Most conservatives believe in a hand up, not a hand out.
Most conservatives respect the dignity of others.  We do not presume to know better than others how to raise their children, spend their money, or live their lives.  As long as we are not paying for it.  Then as with all things, if you have money in the game, you have a say in the rules.

The next four years, the economy will improve in certain areas.  If obama has his way, we will be full throttle on our way to becoming bankrupt as a nation.  More and more will be reliant on government for nearly everything they have.  Instead of lifting all boats, obama will be trying to torpedo the boats of those he envies.  Deep down, he wants to be as rich or richer than those he is determined to wring more taxes out of.
The next four years, instead of uniting and being bipartisan, obama and harry reid will spew more vitriol and hatred towards their opponents, and egg on their partners in the liberal media to do the same.
It won't happen, but just for the sake of argument, the dems win back the house in '10.  They will not accomplish any more than if they don't.  They are even afraid of that happening because then they might be told to put up or shutup.
They next four years, there will be no hope, there will be no change.  The arrogant attitude of a politician that only won by 3 million votes in a nation of 300 million, is indicative of that.

I suppose some might thank you for your generosity in "allowing" a conservative perspective, but I find that a bit patronizing myself.
Hope the next four years is better for you, it doesn't look like it for many of us.

I used to work for a company and our office was right around the corner from the day center for the homeless.
Every day there would be a long line for the meals that they were serving there. Now we had a woman who worked there who had previously worked at that day center and told us that most of the people in line weren't homeless, that they had been seen coming out of the lower income houses down the street.
It is not that I care that people are fed but when the criteria is that they be homeless then there needs to be a distinction. After all how much extra money was spent for folks who had homes and likely had food stamps that could have been spent for other needs or possibly better quality food for those who actually qualified for it?

      Thank you for this, lc.
      Nice articulation.
The labels "liberal" and "conservative" have been so corrupted -- especially here, where they get mushed together with a whole range of terms that end in "ist" that people forget (if they ever knew) what they really mean.

    GW,

I believe the next 2 years will get worse, I reserve comment for years three and four until after mid term elections.

You post some good issues to talk about, too many to discuss at one time. So let's do one at a time. Why do liberals insist on a tax hike without real spending cuts? I

There are more than two sides to every issue, and more than two political ideologies. 'Liberal' vs. 'conservative' is a false dichotomy, as both words' meanings have been warped beyond repair. I would like this debate restarted from a more open point of view, or is 'Voluntarist' beyond the range of acceptable opinion?

Whatever floats your boat I suppose. The end result is the same.
