Why are some people reluctant to change?

I know some people who are very annoying. They always pry into affairs of others (mine too) and tell others what to do. I've tried to talk to them, tell them how wrong this is but they don't listen. They think they're right and they refuse to make any changes with their personality. It's not because they're lazy but because they think that it's others who should change, not they. The worst part is that these people are close relatives of mine so I can't simply avoid or ignore them.. I'd like to hear your opinion on this issue. I'm not asking for any help or anything like that. I'm just curious

Simply put, some people are happy to stay the sad way their are. It's something their use to but change that's scary..

People are afraid of change because it is a part of the unknown As humans we like familiarity, especially where family is concerned, I  remember this saying from my childhood. There was once a prisoner who ws given the choice of taking one of three doors, the first door held horror, which he knew of. The second door held the sound of crying. The third door held silence. The prisoner choose the first door because he was familiar with it. the second door held crying people and the thrid door which he feared the most held change and....... freedom. I am 57 years old and this remains as fixed in my memory now as it was the first time i heard it.

my husband says that a person's personality is fixed by the time one is 5 years old.  I know his is....maybe 5 and a half.

    I read and research astrology......

You usually find that people who have an inability to change are of fixed nature signs.

Taurus especially bad if you have planets there! The others are leo, scorpio and aquarius. Just an alternative option for you to think about :-)

I think people get set in their ways and cannot imagine thinking or behaving any other way.  I also think sometimes people are scared of failure or scared of the unkown, so they don't try to change.  I also think sometimes people think that how they are is simply "good enough" and don't see any reason to be different or better, because being good enough is good enough for them.  Unfortunately, I think these people may never change, so I think it's your job to treat them with kindness and compassion, and try to point out how what they're saying makes you feel bad (but you may not even want to rock the boat like that).  All you can do is be open & honest with them, and tell them you want them in your life, but if they can't respect you and at least be decent to you, then you're going to cease letting them into your heart and life.
