Take golf lessons! Then you will learn a lot about style, technique, and get the practice you need. Joining a club would probably help. Go golfing with friends and go to driving ranges.
As the previous commenter has said, joining your local club and perhaps getting a few lessons will set you in good stead. You can also benefit from many online resources, that provide free golf tips and instructions.
Of course learning the proper basics of a good golf swing is very important, then practicing and perfecting those techniques to develop your own dependable, unique swing.
Once you have learned the basics and spend some time practicing, you will make it from the tee to "near" the green without too much trouble. It is from there to holing out that will make your score. Improving your short game will shave strokes off your score. A variety of pitch shots are necessary (i.e. the chip and run, lob shots over hazards, sand shots) and most importantly PUTTING!!!!
