Favorite FREE screen capture software for Windows XP?
Can you briefly list the application's features and tell us why you like this particular free screen capture software?
Mine is a pretty fancy one. It's called PrtScn
I click the button, and it captures a picture of my full screen. I can then go into Photoshop, or MSPaint, and hit Ctrl+V and it will paste my screenshot into the program.
Personally, I really like MWSnap 3.0.
(available: http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html).
You can capture the entire screen or any part you decide to select. Here are some (but not all) of the features:
5 snapping modes.
Support for BMP, JPG, TIFF, PNG and GIF formats, with selected color depth and quality settings.
System-wide hotkeys.
Clipboard copy/paste.
Printing.
Auto-saving, auto-printing.
Auto-start with Windows.
Minimizing to system tray.
An auto-extending list of fixed sizes, perfect for snapping images for icons and glyphs.
A zoom tool for magnifying selected parts of the screen.
A ruler tool for measuring screen objects lengths.
A color picker showing screen colors with separated RGB parts.
Fast picture viewer.
Adding frames and mouse pointer images.
Multilevel configurable undo and redo.
Multilingual versions.
Configurable user interface.
8 years of release and upgrades.
I don't think you can do any better, even if you BUY one for big bucks.

Once Ashampoo was giving away its Snap 3 at no cost, so I grabbed myself a license key. Images and videos are easy to capture, I don't think I need any sophisticated and expensive software to perform simple tasks.
I like ALT-PrintScreen myself. That captures just the window in focus at the moment instead of the whole screen. I rarely want the whole screen.
Then, if I want to crop or alter the captured image, I open MS Photo Editor, which comes free with windows, and use Edit-Paste_As_New_Image. From there, I can alter, crop, and otherwise edit the captured image any way I want, and then save it as a jpeg.
Works like a charm, totally free, and no download necessary.

Can anyone recommend a decent Screen capture software that is not too expensive? I just tried Camtasia and unless I am doing something very wrong ( I don't think I am) the quality when I uploaded it to youTube was atrocious. I could barely see the image and the sound was HORRIBLE.

I need to capture my desktop tabs on a screen shot for an upcoming hub. How can I take a shot of my screen other than a video. A video would be easier for me. Pros and cons of a screen shot verses a video? Or should I have both for the reader?

How do you measure windows for replacement screens? We have a few windows that are missing screens. I'd like to get replacements, but I'm not sure how to measure the windows or where to go to get them. How does it work to measure the windows for screens and where is the best place to buy...
