What cruise company would you recommend for a first-time cruiser?
I would recommend Royal Caribbean for a first time cruiser. I've been on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, and just recently on Carnival. My daughter went on Carnival for the first time with us, and she loved the cruising concept, however, she said she would not cruise carnival again, because of all the accidents we seen at Carnival's Waterworks. One child even fell and busted her chin. Just didn't seem to be very family friendly as we thought it would be. Princess is really nice, but very expensive. If you're thinking of going on a first cruise, I would recommend Majesty of the Seas. We've been on her twice, and would go again, if her itinerary was to change. Just don't like going to the same places all the time. However, Royal Caribbean's private island is the best of all the private islands we've visited. Enjoy your cruise, and just have lots of fun.
Royal Caribbean all the way! I really enjoyed both my cruises with them. If one has the money the Crown Loft Suites on the (Oasis and Allure) ships are incredible. It was like having our own two story/two bathroom apartment at sea complete with a door bell. I imagine the rest of the state rooms must be nice as well.
These two ships are like being on a floating city. There is a wide variety of activities from Broadway style plays, live music, zip lining, wall climbing, an old time boardwalk complete with a Merry-go-round, a basketball court, gym, swimming pools, nightclubs/lounges, dancing, Central Park, various restaurants, a comedy club, casino, food and more food, bars...etc.
The only thing that could potentially impact your trip is if you have bad weather during your week. It's pays to do some research for the time of year you plan to cruise.
Somewhere between Carnival and Royal Caribbean - both offer 3-5 night cruises for great values. My first cruise (a 7-day one) was with Carnival, on the retired ship Tropicale in 1995. I was 6 years old ant the time. We chose it for value and quality. The food was good and the staff was friendly. So that's why Carnival or Royal Caribbean would do.
Carnival has changed a lot since 1995. Even though we took our first cruise on Carnival last Summer, we've been told by friends that the food is no where near as good, or the shows are as nice, as once what they use to be. I love Royal Caribbean.

Cruises, as we know, are exciting methods of vacationing. You can eat food with reckless abandon, watch glitzy shows, and see new worlds! Thus, I invite you to name your favorite cruise line and explain why!For me, it's Disney Cruise Line. You can hardly be bored on the ships because of the...
