TheManWithNoPants Interviews izettl
A fun exchange with a Hubber who writes whenever inspiration strikes
Given this opportunity to interview, I chose my close friend and fellow Hubber Izettl. Her name is Laura, and she's a quick witted person with just the right amount of confidence. She can whip out a masterpiece of a Hub seemingly with little effort. She has well over fifteen hundred followers, and If I do a decent job asking her some questions, it'll be clear how she got them.
1. Laura, my first question is pretty vanilla, but I'm going to ask it anyway. How did you get hooked up with HubPages in the first place? (I actually don't know the answer here!)
How did I get hooked up with HubPages? I got unemployed! My daughter was about 6 months old and I got laid off from a job in Human Resources. I hated that job anyway. I wanted to begin setting an example for my daughter to always do what she loves and not sell out. So I got back into writing after years of not doing it. I had to find something to do- it was the first time I had no job since I was about 12 when I babysat, walked dogs, sold friendship bracelets I made, and started a neighborhood newspaper- I was very ambitious pretty young.
I have to add, I started writing on HubPages a couple of years ago, but I stopped for about a year in between and it wasn’t until I met YOU (themanwithnopants) that I started getting serious about it. A little friendly competition.
You can out write me in your sleep sis!
2. Your Hub subjects range from oranges to orgasms. Where do these Hubs come from? What inspires you to actually sit down and write one of these little nuggets?
From what rolls around in my brain to what comes out on a Hub, there is not much of a filter. I usually write what I think and yes one minute I could be thinking about oranges and the next orgasms. My brain is on 24/7. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to write a Hub. It’s sort of a release, like an orgasm, and other days getting out a Hub is as tedious as squeezing oranges for homemade juice.
I think I asked for that. (laughing)
3. Does your education in psychology give you an advantage in writing, and if so, how?
I did a lot of writing and reading in psychology so I guess it was good practice. My nature to question things, served me well in psychology and on HubPages.
4. Laura, I know you’re an attractive young woman with a husband and a beautiful daughter. I know that you’ve always been very athletic and, like me, extremely competitive. I also know that you’ve been hit with Rheumatoid Arthritis. What I want to ask you is this. What adjustments have you had to make in your life because of this, how have you managed to keep your competitive edge, and what advise would you give to someone who dealt a life changing condition like this?
In sports and athletics, you have to keep training or you lose what you got and you never improve. A big part of that intense training is mental- you can only do what your mind lets you believe you can do. You have to push the boundaries.
Having Rheumatoid Arthritis for 2 years now, I’ve learned a strong mental capacity for pain and inevitable frustrations is key to dealing with it. Number one piece of advice? Don’t let your illness or setbacks define you! Some people just sit in bed or overmedicate- not me.
Again, Jim, I have to thank you here because I met you when I wrote a particularly down and out Hub and you served as my “coach” for a little while. Competitiveness can be created, but I believe some people, like you and I, just always have it inside them. Support from others helps too. We’re both only children and we first learned to compete with ourselves and the adults around us. That’s a huge task!
Yeah? Well you've kept me going through some stuff too Kiddo.
5. I Laura, who’s your favorite Hubber? Never mind! I’ll get mad if it’s not me, so I’ll just go to the next question!
Actually, I’m surprised to see this question; I thought you’d ask me something about whose legs are better? Yours or Cher’s!
Hands down, you’re my favorite Hubber. You speak my language, man. You get my attention, you make me think, and you add humor or a play on words that I just love!
Hey yeah, If I remember correctly, you gave Cher the edge in that one Hub!
6. How do you feel when you get that notice telling you that you just got another follower, and what do your followers mean to you?
I don’t focus on the number, I focus on the comments. Some days I see that I have 20 new followers and 10 comments out of those 20. I go check out the 10 that left comments; I’ll probably return the follow, and the other 10 who just follow to follow don’t even make it on my radar. Of course there are some loyal followers that mean the most to me and I’ve written Hubs dedicated to them.
Twenty in a day??!! I get like twenty a month! (sigh)
7. Laura, you don’t have to answer this, and you know I already know the answer. What’s the easiest money that you ever made?
You little stinker! You were one of those that got a chance to read my original profile on HubPages. I had on there; the easiest money I made was in a wet t-shirt contest. I love this story because I made some serious cash in less than 2 minutes. Actually it was on a dare from some friends. I love a good dare! It took some time to live it down, but I was local hero for a while. I got recognized at a restaurant one day by a guy who made a comment about it in front of my mom. Yikes!
I love that story. (snickering)
8. Tell me Sis, what kind of stuff makes you smile?
Making others smile. Sentimental crap makes me smile too. I’m the geek girl at a romantic movie wearing a silly grin on my face like it’s me on the receiving end of the gushy one-liners spewing from on-screen hunks like Richard Gere or Matthew Mcconaughey. A girl can dream.
9. I’ll conclude this interview by putting you on the spot. Give everyone on the HubPages a quick rant about anything that crosses your mind. Go!
If I had a good rant right now, I’d be writing a Hub about it. But if I have to come up with something on the spot, I’d say getting people to do their job. I make so many calls trying to straighten out medical bills, services, and employees’ mistakes at various companies. I can’t believe some of the idiots that have jobs while a bus load of overqualified and unemployed people would love to have that job right now. There are no excuses for lazy, irresponsible, or stupid employees.
Well, that concludes this interview. Ain’t she great folks?
