How long does a chicken live in captivity and how long does it like in a natural place
In captivity, it depends whether you are talking about a commercial broiler or layer, or a "backyard" laying hen or meat chicken. In a commercial situation, broilers or meat birds are grown out for 6-8 weeks before slaughter and layers (if allowed two laying periods) live for 12-15 months. Backyard chickens however can live for several years, but the egg quality may decline in the later years of life.
