Can a skunk climb a chainlink fence?
One of my dogs got on the wrong end of a skunk. The skunk was in my yard. My yard is completely fenced in with chainlink fence. The biggest dog I have is smaller than the skunk. My smallest dog weighs 3 pounds & can't get through the fence or gate. How did the skunk get in my yard?
It might have squeezed through your gate, or it might have climbed the fence. It may have dug under the fence. Did you check for holes? Skunks are pretty resourceful.
Spotted skunks climb trees regularly and have been known to scale wooden fences in a jiffy. Striped skunks are more terrestrial, and I would think it very unusual if one attempted to climb a chain link. It is much more likely that your little intruder squeezed under the chain link fence - they are renowned diggers.
