Have you had one particular pet in your lifetime that you still think about and love?

I ask this because I had a big fat cat named Ben who was my very favorite pet ever and I've had a few.  General Lee is a great cat, but he's cranky and hateful at times.  Bennie was always sweet and lovable and I still remember him and love the angel I know he's become.  Just curious if others have paticular pets they still think of.

Arghh, what a difficult question, Marsei!  Actually, this is a subject I wrote a hub about just as thoughtfulgirl2 did.  Almost 2 years ago my family decided to put our border collie "Birthday" to sleep, and I still miss him with my whole being.  He was an amazing animal, smart, intuitive-it seemed-low key, attentive, and terribly sweet.
Having him euthanized was very, very difficult, yet it was the most humane decision at the time.

That's a sad way to lose a pet.  We've had to do that and I'm sorry you had to do it with Birthday.  Ben jumped off my bed and died on the way to the floor.   That's how I want to go!  Thanks for answering.

Oh, my goodness yes. More than one. My husband and I still cry when we talk about our rescued Golden Retrievers that have passed on. We do not have any children, so they are all very precious to us.

Oh, I understand.  My friend and her husband have no children and have had Labs.  Their current lab is 13 and getting gray.  Hoping she lives a few more years.  Thanks for your answer.  I'm sure you gave the Retrievers a wonderful home.

All of my dogs and my cat that are passed away I think of often and still love very much.

There is a term that some people use for a very special dog in their lives that touched their heart the deepest.  It's called "heartdog," and I'm sure the cat people use the term "heartcat" too.

Personally, all of my dogs are "heartdogs," so I haven't had just one special one.  I've had five special ones that have touched my heart deeply. smile

Acutally, I had never heard heartdog or cat and I do like it.  I loved all of mine, also, but Bennie has stayed with me through the years for some reason, I think mostly because he was a lap cat and just all around lovable.  Thank you answering.

Yes. My dog Toby. He was my little dog for 9 years. Always loyal, defensive, cute, and friendly. Best pet I've ever had.

I have, which reminds me I'm still writing his autobiography. I think I left off at 7 or 8, and a couple to go. General Lee sounds like personality plus, but if you had a special attachment for Ben, no animal on earth will ever match those feelings. Thanks for reminding me to finish Gator's story. I've gotten past some rough times but got to finish! Love the question--makes us think! Up, etc.!!

My pet cocker spaniel, Pappa. She was the hub of our family, unperturbed, loving and always available. She was a pillar of strength. I can call her my 'heartdog'.
Thinking about her even today makes my heart ache.

I understand.  I feel the same about my Bennie.  The term "heartdog" is new to me, but you are the second to  use it.  I like it.  Thanks again for your answer.

Thor, My German sharped that was a rescue pet. He was wonderful and saved me from a guy that broke into my house. he died shortly after from being stabbed though the fight. he was a true hero. Right after we got him my kids where still very small and anytime they would go new the street he would grab there diaper and pull them back towards the yard, or start barking if they where doing something that could hurt them. He was a huge dog at a 125lbs and hind legs would stand to my shoulder but it was so funny he was scared of plastic bags. Maybe something to do with he first home I do know but every time we would bring home groceries he would run and hide. he also hated curtains and would rip them down if you left him alone. After him all of our pets come from the pound. There some of the best pets out there.

This is a great story about your German shepard and you should make it into a hub!  I would certainly read it and I know others would too.  Thank you for sharing this.

Yes, I had a very cute white cat. I had named it Sweety. I got it when it was a month old. He used to follow me where ever I went. Once I went to stay at my uncle’s house for a week and when I returned I found that he was missing. It was when he was about 1 year old. I still miss him a lot
