How do you feed your large breed dog?
Long ago authorities recommended large breed dogs eat from elevated food bowls to assist with movement. Now experts are recommending floor level. Which method do you use and why?
I have had several large breed dogs, and they both eat in a bowl which is set on the floor. My last dog got arthritis, so it was hard on her to stand to eat. I tried elevating her food, but she preferred to lay down and eat, so putting the bowl on the floor was the best for her.
I do not have a giant dog (she is medium sized) but recommend feeding at ground level for the owners of giant dogs. Years ago it was suggested that giant dogs would suffer from gastric bloat if the dog bowl was elevated. That has proven to be wrong, and dogs fed at ground level have a decreased incidence of this condition.
