How diverse are the pets in your  household?

I'm curious about the number of people who keep multiple species of pets. Do you have only dogs and/or cats? What about fish tanks, small animals, birds, reptiles, or insects?

I have a female pit bull who is very well trained and is the biggest lovable baby everrrr. Her name is Buffy Jean Pants. I wrote a hub about her !!  I also have a female border collie mix who is adopted and is also very sweet and lovable. Her name is Annie Bananie. We have a cockatoo named Riley who is also a rescue. Buffy thinks Riley is her bird and Riley thinks Buffy is his dog. GO figure!
When we go to work, we live them all in a room together to keep each other company.

Pit bulls are one of my very favorite breeds. They're illegal here in Denver, but most here acknowledge the ban exists to prevent abuse of the breed, not to "keep people safe." They are so loyal to their family, whether people or other pets.

What about horses, sheep, cattle, goats, and other little farmyard critters? Do chickens count? How about geese and ducks? My tegu (a large species of lizard) would like to chomp on them all but he gets by on their eggs. My dog has been relegated to the position of menagerie babysitter, but I am sure that she would like to stand up and be counted.

A cavy is a guinea pig right? I love their little "week-week" calls. They are so adorable!

I've always liked to keep a mix of animals, my biggest pet was my horse and my smallest were pink winged stick insects. I have fewer pets these days and they are 4 terrapins (turtles) ,3 dogs, 2 rabbits, 2 cockatiels, 1 cat. It can be such a joy when different species get on and interact together, for instance I had one cockatiel in my  aviary who used to like sharing the rabbit's food and some of the zebra finches would cheekily perch on the rabbit's back to collect loose hair for lining their nests.

You're right, the different behaviors between species (and individuals) are very interesting. My lovebird likes to snuggle with one of my cats, but is terrified of the dog even though he's never shown one bit of interest in her.

I, too, used to have several different types of pets.  I adore "pocket pets," and guinea pigs are among my favorites.  I also love cats.  However, my dog agility travel schedule has made it hard to keep other species besides dogs, so I currently only have three dogs - Aslan, Asher and Jericho - all shelties.

Shelties are so much fun in agility! A hobby like that does require extensive commitment though. I can see how it would be hard to take care of other animals.
