Do you brush your dogs teeth? How does your dog react when you do?
I heard that brushing a dogs teeth makes the dog uncomfortable.
No I don't brush their teeth. I give them a very large raw ham bone to chew on. My vet cannot believe how clean their teeth are. I do know a lot of people that do brush their dogs teeth though and it doesn't seem to make the dogs uncomfortable at all. I think if you get them used to it at a very young age it won't bother them at all.
I've been brushing my dog's teeth for years. (She's now 8 years old.) Even though she gets healthy crunchy treats, her regular meals are home-cooked and soft. Soft food sticks to the teeth more than commercial kibble, so I brush her teeth to prevent tartar. I wouldn't say she "enjoys" it, but she lets me do it without putting up a fuss. I use a special toothbrush that makes the task easier, and a healthy canine toothpaste that doesn't have any dangerous additives. It helps keep her breath more pleasant, too.
