How do you remove Skunk smell from inside the house?
Last night my dog was sprayed by a skunk. I didn't realized she had been sprayed until she bolted into the house and ran frantically from room to room trying to hide. I have bathed her a few times with baking soda and vinegar and that has helped a great deal but the house still stinks. I have light colored hardwood and carpeting so I am looking for something that won't stain.
Keep windows open to let fresh air circulate and let plenty of light in. The ultraviolet rays apparently helps to lift the odour from any fabrics it has clung to.
Place small bowls of white vinegar around the worse smelling rooms, either on the floor or high up on shelves to stop pets or children knocking them over. The vinegar should absorb the smell within 24 hours.
For hard surfaces dilute 1 cup (250ml bleach) with 1 gallon (4 litres) of warm water in an open container and use a scrubbing brush to clean area. Rinse with warm water and then dry with a clean dry cloth. (Not suitable for fabrics or carpets)
For carpets - Sprinkle baking soda over the carpet before vacuuming thoroughly. You can also try steam cleaning the carpet.
