   How do you keep a malamute out of trouble? How much excersize do they need in order for him to be tired throughout the day while I am at school?

   How many hours are you away at school each day? If you are in college, you might be gone for a few days and be able to handle a breed like a Malamute. If you are still in high school and are gone all day a Malamute is not a good choice. They need a lot of exercise, which is how you keep them tired and out of trouble.

      So if I exercise it in the morning and then when I get home is that not enough? I am gone about 7 hours a day

      I had Siberian Huskies in H.S.I ran them on harness in the mornings before school, ran them loose in the forests in the afternoon. If that is the best you can do, try it.

   I have an Alaskan Husky. A tired dog is a good dog. As long as you remember that, you'll be good. They are very smart, Malamutes and Huskies alike. There's a TV channel that's just for dogs, and it may be enough to keep him entertained while you're away -- or you could come back and see that he's tried to eat the other dogs he saw on the TV and now you need a new TV. Malamutes and Huskies have been known to reach their goals. If their goal is to get on the counter, they'll rearrange your furniture (if they can) in order to do that. I once went to a bar for 30 minutes and came home to find my sofa moved and my Husky standing on the counter looking at me like I'm the weird one. We have to dog-proof our house every time we leave. Try walking him before school -- as long of a walk as you possibly can. They say if you get Huskies or Malamutes that you should get them in twos. Then they have a pack, and they stay out of trouble -- or they end up helping each other out to reach that goal if they haven't had exercise. Dogs like that need a large yard and a lot of running space. They're working dogs and if they're not working, their minds wander and so do their little cute fuzzy butts and they get into trouble. If you have rollerblades or a skateboard or anything like that, having your dog pull you can rapidly decrease his or her energy as well. We used to get on the rollerblades and make our Husky pull us. He could go for an hour without taking a break, but we would stop him for water breaks. Even though he was pulling my 200 pound Fiancé, he could still run at 25 MPH for a couple miles. Afterwards, he was worn out for at least 12 hours or more. I would also consider looking for a doggy daycare, that keeps everyone out of trouble and he comes home tired for about $12 a day or less.
