Jura the Lion Lop Head Rabbit
Hello I'm Jura The Lion Head Rabbit
I am a Lion Head Lop Rabbit, and I would like to clear something up. You see people say there is no such a breed as a Lion head Lop, well they are kind of right, I am a Lion Head rabbit crossed with the Lop breed, making me a Lion Lop.
Kind of like the Labradoodles and Puggles of the dog world. So unfortunately rabbits did not escape the designer animal trend either.
We are not a recognised breed. So if you are interested in showing rabbits then I am not for you. Although we are easy to take care of we still need a lot of attention.
Please note Jura passed away peacefully, however I have kept her page here as a memorial for her, she was an awesome rabbit.

How our Lion Lop fits in our family!
I came to stay with my new family as the lady who had me was not allowed to keep me in her new house.
You have might have already read about Molly, She is a Douge de Bordeaux, Roxy our other dog,(she's the shy one, of us all) Rebecca and Dad.
And recently a new addition Belle the Bulldog Puppy
Can you see the resemblance to Belle the Bulldog? Quite funny us both running around and mum trying to work out who is who?
I have a huge garden, but actually I prefer going to the neighbours garden as it has lots of juicy dandelion leaves for me to eat! ,
What is a Lion Lop Rabbit
cute rabbits
As you can imagine the name lion lop suggests is a cross between the standard lionhead rabbit and the lop rabbit. Both lionhead lop rabbits and mini lion lop rabbits have the traditional coat and body and ears of the lop eared rabbit, but still have the mane from the lionhead.
So a drawback of my cuteness is that by having slightly lopped ears does mean that my mane gets tangled more easily, and so it is recommended that owners of these breeds are brushed or combed at least once a day.
I have a sore eye just now, I had to go to the vet who told Rebecca it was my teeth, and I have eye drops, and will visit the Vet regularly. Do you know that undetected dental problems in rabbits are a major cause of more serious illnesses which develop due to the pain and stress of sore teeth and jaw.
So I was glad Rebecca, who knew what signs to look for because it told her in her book, noticed my runny eye and that although I was hungry I could not eat my rabbit food. But i feel much better now, but still need to have my eye drops.

Things new owners should know
Because I had lived somewhere before, I was used to other animals, in fact I used to share my rabbit run with a chicken. My new house had 2 very big dogs, and they were so excited to see me, but their big faces at my cage frightened me at first. But mum would bring me out of my cage and I was soon running around the garden, funny the dogs never bothered me. And they are big softies.
During the day, if mum is out in the garden she will open my hutch door and I run up and down so excited to be out. Sometimes, if it is raining, mum brings me into the house with her. It is funny because Molly, Roxy and I get on so well. But I like to know someone is there with me too.
I am also house trained, and when I need to I pop into my litter tray to do my business, it is only polite after all. I do really like cables, which is naughty but mum makes sure they are out of reach for me.
Exercise for your Rabbit
....
I have my own special collar and lead, and can go for walks. I usually run ahead of Rebecca and kick my legs out in the air. She needs to run to keep up with me. People stop to look at me, but I don't care, They are just jealous as before we go out Rebecca brushes me and combs my mane. I have had to tell her to stop spiking it up as I can't see where I am going when it falls into my eyes. And I put my foot down when she suggested hairspray!
When I am out on my long lead, I love this but someone always needs to be with me, as not every dog is as friendly as Molly and Roxy. I like it in the neighbors garden as they have grass at the front, and people stop to clap me when they are passing. They say I'm the cutest rabbit ever.

I like my house because it gives me a lot of room, I sleep upstairs all cozy and warm, and I can pop down to have a run around with the grass on my feet.
House Rabbit - Baby its cold outside
Due to the severe weather we decided to bring Jura indoors, people said we were completely mad what with having the dogs too, but I actually really love having the rabbit indoors and it is so cool, and although we have had to make sure all the wires etc are out of her reach, she has fitted right in to sitting with the dogs at nighttime.
(I don't think I will be putting her back outside, she is too cute and too much fun to watch running and jumping around)
We bought an indoor hutch so she can get away for some peace and quiet, however I just keep the door open and she bounds in and out when she likes.
The Best Rabbit Guide - Helping you to have a Happy Rabbit
Rebecca was given this book and she used to sit reading it with me, I liked it because she did everything it told her in the book. The best thing she does is make sure my bed is nice and clean every day, and fluffs up all the hay for me to keep me warm.
I love the books that you can peek inside, online and have a look before you buy!
