Only if it's clearly marked on the site that you can use the pattern for commercial purposes.
i say sure why not ...u put in the time and effort to produce this piece of art so i believe it is yours to do with as you like.
Most patterns offered will indicate whether you can or can't use them for sale. I suggest you don't copy them exactly, in other words, make the design or pattern your own by changing it up a bit.
Also, if the pattern isn't marked whether you can use it for sale, try emailing the originator and ask for their permission.
Hope this helps. Good luck crafting!!
Free sewing patterns are given to supply a need to newborns in need, charity work, etc. and returning the finished work to the organization supplying pattern.
You must ask permission to use the pattern for commercial purposes. If you do not ask, then changes must be made to the pattern, whereby the pattern is similar, not exact. In some instances, one can create a pattern and see it on another site.
If you create a pattern and see it somewhere else, without permission and your proof of a copyright or pattern, you can contact that person and ask not to use for commercial purposes. This is what the "free" means. Without permission, you cannot use.
My personal feeling is that you should be able to use them any way you see fit. Legally it depends on the publisher and/or creator of the pattern. I restore and republish vintage patterns and offer some for free and some for sale. All of my patterns can be freely used, as that was the purpose of preserving and republishing them. I hate to see these treasures lost and forgotten.

I know patterns and fabrics vary, but I wanted to make a cute 50's style dress. I feel like I was made to be born in that era. haha. Anyways, what's your experience with designing your own clothes, is it easy to work a sewing machine? If I were to began trying, what's a cheap way to go about doing...
