Do you get best photos if you go according to the rules or when breaking the basic rules?

You find yourself best when you just go according to the photography rules or  when breaking it? which made you give the best outcome? Share a photograph which you consider as best from which you have clicked if possible.

Most often you obtain the best photos when you follow the rules. For some, depending on what you want to accomplish, like special effects, not following the rules works also.

There is an old saying, 'rules are for fools but provide guidance to the wise.'  We all have to learn the rules of any art before we are wise enough to know when to break them.
I get the best results when I use the appropriate technique for the photograph that I want to take, that technique may or may not follow the rule book, but I've been taking photographs since 1958 so I probably do it all instinctively.

Both.  Use them as a guideline, but experiment and find your own style.  A "good" photo is entirely up to the person looking at it.

I am a firm believer that rules are meant to be broken. That said you have to fully understand them and understand why they are "the rules" before you can break it.

People who take snapshots break the rules, but they don't know that there are rules. Photographers know the rules, understand the rules and decide when the moment is right to break them.
