Anyone have suggestions for supplies to start encaustic painting?
I'd appreciate any advice on selecting the best encaustic supplies for a beginner. I believe this medium would be perfect for a series I'd like to start soon. If there is a website that you found especially helpful for encaustic tips, please share.
I've done a little bit of encaustic work. You can purchase pre-mixed encaustic paints online, or you can mix your own using beeswax, damar resin, and oil pastels or oil sticks. You'll need a warmer, like a kitchen griddle, and some metal containers for your colors (some people like to use muffin tins), and lots of brushes you're prepared to dedicate to encaustic work, because once the wax gets into them, they're not good for anything else. You also need a work space that's well ventilated.
