Can you re-varnish an oil painting by applying another layer of a different varnish?
I have varnished an oil painting with Damar varnish and it came out very, very shiny. Can I apply a layer of a different varnish on top, to make it more satin?
Try applying a coat of Dorland's wax medium over the top, which should knock the shine down a bit.
