How do I know when I need to change my tyres?
I have no idea when to change the tyres on my car. Can someone help?
Instead of changing tires, make sure that you rotate your tires every time you get your oil changed. this will help prolong the life of your tire.
A quick way to check your tires to see if you have enough tread is get a penny, and place it upside down (with Lincoln's head facing down) in one of the grooves. if you can see the top of the head its time to get new tires.
It's recommended that tires older than 5 years be disgarded regardless or mileage as the rubber compounds age. But who really does this? 48 or 60 minutes TV programs did an entire story on this. I see by the way you spell Tyres... that you are probably not in the united states.
Tires have "wear bands" built into them.. as your tread wears down you'll see this band horizontally across your tire. This means the tread is gone and it's no longer safe to drive on the tires.
I can recommend you visit and online site called TireRack.com if you want to learn a lot about Tire codes.

I have driven a car for a number of years but recently moved on to motorcycles and though there are critical differences between the two, I notice that the motorcycle tires wear out much faster than the way the tires on my car does. Why is that?
