need more clarification....the Ford Mustang Cobra was when the Mustang II was in production so it would have been 1975 but the Shelby Cobra was another era altogether. and another car based on the English produced AC Cobra.

The Mustang I'm referring to, is a 96 SVT, has a 99 front bumper and the headlights have a black background, round fog lights. Maybe you have more info. on this type/year...is it a Cobra or not? Thanks!

1965-1970, they were Shelby Mustangs. 1976 was the first year of the Mustang Cobra.

Thank you for your answer, we are in the process of restoring a Mustang and need more information since it seems  to have been converted to a Cobra, it is a 96, but with 99 front bumper/lights.

I fairly sure that on April 1, 1968 that Ford unveiled the Mustang 428 Cobra Jet, however I do see a lot of other answers here as well.

the 428 Cobra Jet was an engine for the Mustang.  In the Tbird it was a Thunderjet 428 and then 429

wn Lee Iaccoca had the Mustang redesigned for 1974 and named it the Mustang II it was the only year a V8 engine did not fit in it's engine compartment.  During the 1974 model run he then had new frame rails and engine mounts designed to fit the 302.
