If electric cars had the same range and price as gas cars, would you buy one?
I still want an electric SUV or Truck, but if I had the cash, I would definitely get electric
I probably wouldn't because range is only one of an endless number of factors. Today's electric cars lack horsepower so you can forget about living in a hilly area (like I do) or passing someone for that matter. Electric cars tend to be pretty heavy due to the large battery cells that need to be lugged along. Recharging could take forever, there is no way to speed-charge said massive batteries. If you had a vehicle covered in solar cells you couldn't recharge fast enough to counter your energy usage, even on the sunniest, clearest day. Or even if the car had sophisticated mini wind turbines of some sort (to generate electricity from draft as you travel) they couldn't generate enough voltage to counter the energy loss during use. So with a 100% electric vehicle plan on very short trips and looking for places to plug into publicly-accessible outlets all of the time... way too much hassle to deal with. Today all of these limitations are based on known technology and the physics involved, but who knows what tomorrow could bring...

What if any is the reason that you feel electric cars are impractical? With the exception of the Tesla Model S, most electric cars have a very limited range. They take longer to refuel (charge) and tend to be quite costly to purchase (compared to an equivalent-sized gas-powered car).
