   I have no answer. It is hard for me to be motivated at my day job. I am too anxious to get back home and Friday is the worst day, it goes too slow. Sorry, doesn't look like I answered your question.

   If you love your job, it's easy.  It takes some attitude adjustment to make your job enjoyable or at least tolerable.  I try to remember that I was hired to do a job because of my qualifications, they wanted me; and I need to do my best because of who I am.  Maybe posting a picture of your family would help to keep you focused and motivated.  Had to chuckle at wetnosedogs and nextyear's comments!

   My former boss was a great motivator who told me:  "Dan, you can work your ass off and get things accomplished.... OR, I can find someone else who will....."

   You can keep yourself more motivated by realising that it is just a job and you have a great life outside of it. 
   
   You can fill those gaps by either finding a job that brings satisfaction or complement it by introducing more positive things into your life like, a fantastic hobby, taking part in sports, or introducing the things you really do enjoy into your life more.
   
   If you can’t leave the job, then tip the scales in your favour by increasing the rate of things that do bring your happiness and stimulation.  So when you are next at work you have a positive identity to those specific areas which will keep you on a high.

   Being in a job that totally holds your interest is a great motivator. If one's only motivation on  a job is a paycheck the days get very long and it's impossible for one to remain attentive at something that's boring to them. This seems to be a personal thing as I've known folks who worked on the same assembly line for years at very repetitive jobs and loved it. I guess it's different strokes for different folks!

   I recommend that you make a list of what’s not working and identify the clues this activity provides. Perhaps you’re not feeling challenged. Imagine a time when you were. Figure out what is missing in your current situation. Use your dissatisfaction to your benefit. Now is the time to get a better picture of what you want at work so you can get more of it in your life.
   
   Once you are more aware of what you want, communicate your ideas to your manager. Make suggestions to him/her regarding ways to incorporate new challenges and scenarios into your present position.
