Unions are an integral part of the American job system. Unions have been good in that they have improve the working conditions of many Americans by decreasing work hours, creating more humane work conditions, and liveable wage. Unions also have their bad side in that many unsatisfactory workers kept their jobs via benefits of the unions. Oftentimes, unions often refuse to concede to management's demands at the perils of the workers. What is YOUR stand regarding unions?
As you say, at one time unions were desperately need and provide a great service.
Now, however, the primary purpose is to pad the pockets of union VIP's and make them powerful. I'm sure there are a few companies around the country that need a strong union to curtail certain activities, but they are fairly rare and in nearly all cases the law will do as well.
In general, rather than voting a union in, employess are better served to vote with their feet and find a different job.
Without unions workers have no representation. The only way workers can have a voice is to join together. Unions give workers that opportunity. Pay and benefits have declined along with union representation since the 60's. It will continue to do so until workers band together again to gain a powerful voice.
Unions started out as good things.
They're now too politicized and infiltrated by greedy activists.
