Why don't people mind their own business?

A transport driver to dialysis announced "It would be good for you to get a place where you live!"
"err, no." hoping he'd shut up.
"Oh!" he bellowed "Most people want to dialyse as near home as they can."
I couldn't resist though it seemed obvious "I were there I got out"
"Oh," again bellowing "isn't dialysis just dialysis?!"
"err, not when there's a crime syndicate and drug problem at one place, and not so much at another."
When we got there it took three attempts to get rid of him, he seemed keen to find out what I knew.
    What would you have done?

People are interested in the lives and problems of others more so than their own. Why? We do not want to face our problems, rather the problems of someone else.
I would tell him that the conversation was over, just walked away ignoring him, or gone with the conversation. It would depend on what mood I'm in. It doesn't matter if someone is curious about what you know, end the conversation. Just get out of there. Tell them bluntly, "I have to go. Bye" or just be rude "Bye".
