Has 'life on the open wave' changed since the WWII days of (Cmdr) Nicholas Montsarrat?

Has the division between officers and men shrunk since the Captain was God?

Yes, life on the open wave has changed since the WWII days of (Cmdr) Nicholar Montsarrat. The context, globally, has changed. Politics and technology has changed, as the world has continued to evolve. Some people call this progress, others do not. Very good question. Regards. Dr. Haddox

I've seen from recruitment posters that naval ratings and their officers have to be more like technocrats than they used to be, does it make for a better environment to work in?
