Are these freelance writing sites I've been reading about on the internet legitimate?
It matter which sites you're talking about. Most of the ones I have run into are legitimate it just takes you a long time to start really getting work. You have to submit work to prove you can get the job done and you bid on jobs against other people. Good money but you have to be willing to stick with it even after you get denied for your first 100 jobs. Freelancer and Elance are two that I have found that are legitimate.
