The vast majority of government jobs are non-productive. All too often they're also bureaucratic "make-work", self-perpetuating and self-justifying. Not to mention self-aggrandizing.

Free people - i.e. the free market - have very little use for this kind of expertise. Quite the contrary. These jobs suck the very life out of the economy and discourage not just economic but also personal freedoms of ALL the people they supposedly serve - including even the vast majority of the pathetic functionaries who perform these jobs.

So, in the (sadly) unlikely event that the government ever gets scaled back to doing what its constitutional and useful purpose actually is, all the government workers would need to get re-educated in order to actually do something useful for a change. And because that would be very difficult for most of them, any such process of transition would have to be a slow and painful one. But at least it would have a very healthy final outcome.

As for those government employees who actually do something useful, i.e. they perform work normally done within the private sector - they would just have to get used to more realistic wages and would have learn to live without the protectionist measures so characteristic of ALL government jobs (which the government always enforces in order to shield itself from the competition of the free market).

So, people like that would surely be able to find gainful employment on the free market - and would be rewarded JUSTLY, in accordance to the natural laws of supply and demand.

You are right, the majority of government jobs are USELESS.  One can call such jobs nonsense jobs with no intrinsic value. Such jobs are indeed a drain on the economy. It would be better for the economy if such jobs were privatized or eliminated.
