What's the best niche for a blog?

    I've been a freelance writer (mostly ghostwriter) for quite a few years now and I also occasionally publish articles here on hubpages.

    I constantly hear that all writers need to have their own blog, no matter how simple it is since this makes you look more professional and acts as a sort of portfolio ...

    So I've been thinking of starting a blog and I think that it should be focused on some kind of specific niche so that it'll have a theme, but I'm not sure what I should choose/what would be the best option in the long run

    Some interests I have are: languages (I'm a language teacher and polyglot), travel (I love to travel to different places and have visited quite a number of places in recent years and have photos from these locations), food (I love to cook, eat and try out new recipes and cultural foods and this has been the subject of many of my articles here), gardening (another long time hobby of mine and I recently began posting articles about plants here)

    Another idea I had was to start a portfolio-style blog and list the services I offer, but I think that this would be kind of boring and I'd like to have something that I can constantly add to so that it'll be a hobby of sorts

    Any tips are greatly appreciated!
