Fast food outlets and bookies doing well in the recession, would you franchise in the recession?

According to recent reports with the busy life style, cost advantage and increasing demand of convenience food, the fast food industry in the US is expected to grow so we can say its a recession proof franchise business.

No, I would not franchise even if no recession!

Invest in your own idea with the freedom to do what you want, most of the franchises out there are not much better than being employed by the company but with longer hours and less money.

Franchises are great in concept because they've already figured out the business model for you.  The thing you have to be cautious about is how much premium they charge for that expertise.  Some franchises aren't worth it.  Some absolutely are.  If you're interested, check out Chick-fil-a.  They are a fast food chain mostly in the southeast, but they are growing fast.  And I think they're initial investment is really low too.
