Yes, you can generate money by setting up online mag. Not sure how subscription model will work from start of it,so you've to give free content to some extent.
If site manages to generate traffic 10,000++ page views per day then ad-slot will easily get filled. If not directly get sold, then only option left is with ad-networks so join valueclick/cpx interactive to find advertisers on ppv/cpm model.

Do people still buy Magazine subscriptions? If they do what ones?Magazine subscriptions are cheaper and cheaper and the only reason I see for selling them for 78% off is to ensure they have some kind of income at all. So do people still buy magazines? What ones? Why?
