Hubbers Who Have Been My Support System: Installment Number Twenty-Two

Updated on May 29, 2014

Welcome to My Neighborhood

I have been around HubPages for awhile now. I have peeked behind the furniture and snooped in the medicine cabinet, and I’m pretty sure I can navigate the hallways without getting lost. I still trip on that frayed carpet from time to time, but mostly it has been a pleasurable experience, and the main reason why I love this old house is because of the people who are my neighbors.

They are always there for me and I find that remarkable. I moved in a little over ten months ago, and I received some great housewarming gifts early on and the gifts just keep on coming. My neighbors stop by each day with a howdy and well-wishes, and I have gotten to know many of them quite well during that time, so well that I now consider them to be true friends and not just fellow writers.

We are a tight-knit community, an odd collection of cheerleaders and counselors, each trying to advance their own careers and yet always having time to help each other and yes, I find that to be remarkable as well.

So today I want to introduce you to some of my neighbors. Stop by and say hello; introduce yourself and give them a sampling of your work. You just might end up being as lucky as I am, and gather a bunch of friends for life.

Say Hello to Melissa

Her Hub name is mpropp and you can find her here http://mpropp.hubpages.com/. Let me tell you about Melissa. She moved into the neighborhood a few months ago, and she hails from the great state of Minnesota, and I find her to be delightful.

There she was one day, on my doorstep, smiling and being all affirmative and encouraging. I thought she just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar; little did I know that she planned on moving into the Billybuc site and establishing permanent residence there.

She is bright, delightful, energetic and I love her smile. Did I mention that she is incredibly loyal? Well, find out for yourself; stop by her site and borrow a cup of sugar. You just might get so much more!

The Matriarch of the Neighborhood

Can I get in trouble by calling my next guest a matriarch? How about a grand dame? All I know is that she was one of the first to welcome me to my new house in Hubville, and she has been with me for ten months now. Her name is Paula and you can find her here http://fpherj48.hubpages.com/.

I wrote about Paula in the first installment of this series, but I want to give special mention to her once again, and since this is my gig, I guess I can do whatever I want. This is a no-nonsense lady who is in- your-face honest, a lady who does not understand b.s. and who has a wonderful sense of humor.

When she knocked on my door ten months ago, I just figured she wanted to borrow the lawnmower. Hell no, she wanted me to mow her lawn! That’s Paula for you! To me she is everything that is great about this neighborhood, and if you don’t follow here already then you really need to get your act together and do so.

The Dunedin Dynamo

Wasn’t that a clever sub-heading? I’m kind of proud of it.

Well, this next Hubber hails from Dunedin, Florida, and her name is Liz (http://radcliff.hubpages.com/) , and she has been around Hubville for longer than I have, and I can tell you that she is a devoted mother who has a great sense of humor….in fact, I’m still not convinced that her name is Liz! She knows I get confused with names and I think her name is Beckie and she just changes it to make me appear old and lost. Oops, I really am old and lost. Okay, scratch that! Back to Liz!

Do you know how there are certain people you just instantly like? There is something in their words, or the way they say what they say, just some indefinable quality and you think you would really like to know them better. That’s Liz! She is a quality writer and one day she was walking by my place; she popped in for a cup of tea and she has been a regular guest ever since. Invite her over for tea and see if I’m telling the truth. If I’m lying then I’m dying!

Aloha Mr. Chris

Okay, true story….oh, wait, this is Chris from Hawaii. Okay, now true story. Chris flew in from the islands one day, and he was walking through the Hubville neighborhood on the mainland. He stopped by my place while I was working in the garden, and he said hi.

A few days later he walked by, said hi again, and that happened maybe three more time.

Then, one day about a month ago, he walks up to my doorstep and gives me the Lollipop Award, right out of the blue, no questions asked, no fanfare, no nothing….just gave me an award that meant the world to me.

Do you need to know anything else about this great guy?

Opera Anyone?

John Sarkis is his name and here he is http://johnsarkis.hubpages.com/.

So, another true story. I see this guy down the block several months ago, and he’s driving this really hot car. Tells me he is a writer, and he writes these articles about cars, and sure enough, that’s what I find when I visit his home in Hubville.

Then one day I see him down the block and he’s singing opera, and he tells me he’s a writer and he writes articles about opera and classical music.

So, which is true? Are we dealing with multiple personalities or are we dealing with a guy who has an incredible range of interests and is infinitely smarter than me? Yes, you got it, the second choice is correct. J

Nice Guys Do Come from Joplin, Missouri

Mr. Archer is his Hubname and here is his home in Hubville http://mrarcher.hubpages.com/.

I don’t know how to describe this gentleman, other than to say he is genuine, sincere, and has great depth. He strolled by one day when I was taking out the trash, and we got to talking, and suddenly he was praising me for my garden and my lifestyle and my sense of humor and my whatever….all he does is build me up with nice words….and I’m thinking this guy can’t be for real.

And then it turns out he is!

It also turns out that he is a writer, and a darn good one, and he cares about his fellow man, and he is invested in helping others, and…and….and…and

Would you like to meet a truly good man in Hubville? Here he is!

Bill Is the Traveling Man

To Hubbers far and wide he is known as bdegiulio; find him here http://bdegiulio.hubpages.com/.

Okay, I will admit it: the first time I met Bill he was writing a Hub about the area where I live, and he was writing it better than I could have written it, and I was green with jealousy. There, I said it!

So I read his Hub, and I’m getting ready to tell him how ticked off I am, and it turns out, darn it, that he’s a nice guy. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Now Bill is writing articles about Italy and he’s writing them better than my Great Grandma Maria could write them, and she lived in Sicily for like 200 years. And somehow, despite all of this traveling, Bill manages to stop by and visit me every single time I write some more nonsense and call it a Hub.

He is a friend; he is a gentleman; and he is worth a visit!

Thank you, all of you!

More Later

Bev is calling and I really have to hustle up and take the garbage out, so I’ll have to continue this in another installment. Hey, if you are ever by my neighborhood in Hubville, stop by and say howdy. I love meeting new people, and who knows, I might just write nice things about you.

I’m hosting a barbecue in December. You bring the meat and side dishes and I’ll eat. Sound good to you?

Thanks to all of you….all eleven-hundred and some odd people….Hubbers….friends….kindred spirits….thank you from the bottom of my heart!
