How do you discipline yourself to step away from the computer?
I get so caught up between working on hubs, writing posts, checking stats and reading/commenting on hubs that I completely lose track of time. I am often running late and sometimes don't have time to get anything else done.
I get up very early and get a lot done in two hours. Take breaks for other things and get back to it for short intervals during the day if I am home. Sometimes it is really hard to break so I sympathize with you. Set a time of how much you can and...have a loud alarm go off..Kind of tongue and cheek on that.
I look my daily planner and realize what else there is to do. Or sometimes, I set a timer.
I have schedules and time limits that I stick to for the most part. When it is time to stop using the computer I stop using the computer. I turn off the computer and turn on the TV. My TV time is also my exercise time. Since I have other stuff to do it is not that hard to step away. I may lose track of time temporarily but it is displayed on my computer all the time. If I play a game on my computer or on my Wii I limit the time to an hour.
I find that some days if I am not careful, I will end up sitting here most of the day. I have to turn the darn thing off and walk away and find another project to work on. Then something will come to me that I have to Google--and I turn it on again.
It is much like an addiction for me.
Well your best course of action is to plan ahead. Plan at least a day in advance what goals you want to set for the next day. Research and write a hub, read and comment on x# of hubs, research and write posts to your personal or pet blogs.. it matters a lot on what your goals are so set them and then make it a habit to reward yourself for reaching a goal. This way, you turn a bad habit of wasting time in front of a computer into a good habit that is productive and conductive for the lifestyle of your choosing.
If you choose to turn your hobby of writing into a career then you need to treat it more like a career. In a real job you take breaks, lunches, quitting time. Do the same with your writing career. It gets real easy to do when you set those goals.
My day planner is a dry-erase board that I have on the wall above my computer. I see my goals and the time allotments I've given them. If I don't make the time for a given goal, I still take the break I need, come back refreshed and continue on until I do complete it.
I've heard it takes 40 days to break a bad habit. In that same amount of time you can be creating good habits as well.

I can't seem to find an answer for this in the learning center. I have a large set of articles I've been writing for a while + some time on my hands to dedicate to Hubpages for the next couple of months. Would publishing 10 hubs a day benefit or disadvantage me, both in terms of hub score /...

Are you ever able to stay off the Internet for even just one whole day? This question came to me after another hubber answered another question about being on-line each and every day and how hard it is to not get on-line, even for one day. Do you find it very difficult to not be on-line for...

When you write, what do you also surround yourself with? For example, do you have music on in the background, the television, and do you make sure your favorite snack is with you? Do you drink coffee or tea? And do you write from handwritten notes, or do you start typing away?

I get a LOT of questions on my article about hamsters. Most of them have answers that can easily be found in the article. I’m not going to lie; it’s getting tiring answering the same question for the fifteenth time, especially as the asker would know if they bothered to read the article properly....
